Job summary

The General Board of Church and Society (GBCS) of The United Methodist Church seeks a Director of Development to lead the design and execution of comprehensive fundraising programs in Washington, DC.

You will cultivate donors, manage grants, lead campaigns, oversee budgets, and collaborate across teams, including digital engagement and communications, to advance GBCS's social principles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred in nonprofit-related fields.
• 4 to 6 years of development and/or fundraising experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising and donor stewardship best practices.
• Experience managing donor pipelines and donor engagement.
• Digital communications skills and social media collaboration.
• Knowledge of grant compliance, reporting, and fund stewardship.
• Willingness to travel; Washington DC residence required.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, and manage fundraising strategies and donor engagement.
• Research, write, submit, and manage grant proposals with reporting requirements.
• Lead fundraising campaigns; manage budgets and financial accountability.
• Coordinate development activities with coworkers (events, mailings).
• Serve as staff liaison to the Development Advisor Committee with reports and updates.
• Support digital engagement and donor communications.
• Analyze fundraising performance and propose improvements.
