Job summary

Community Council of Idaho in Caldwell, Idaho, is seeking a Development Director to lead the fundraising strategy for the organization’s mission. This exempt, regular full-time role focuses on external development activities, major gifts, annual giving, grants, corporate sponsorships, and donor stewardship.

The Development Director will supervise key staff and align messaging with fundraising priorities, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer.

DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

  • Position Summary: The Development Director is responsible for leading

and implementing the organizations fundraising strategy to ensure

sustainable financial support for its mission. This role oversees all

development activities, including major gifts, annual giving, grants,

corporate sponsorships, and donor stewardship. The Development Director

will supervise the Grant Specialist, Communication Specialist and

Assistant Director of Community Relations/Marketing to ensure alignment

between fundraising efforts and organizational messaging. While this

position will have internal responsibilities, it is primarily focused on

external development activities and gift and donor cultivation, the

position has an expected goal of raising new dollars. Within four years

it is anticipated the position will raise a minimum of four times the

cost of the position and develop ongoing annual goals.*

Development:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive development plan to meet annual

revenue goals.

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with individual donors,

foundations, and corporate partners.

  • Identify new giving strategies and opportunities and diversify

revenue streams

Grant Management
  • Oversee the Grant Specialist in researching, writing, and submitting

grant proposals.

  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements and timely reporting,

including being the corporate sponsor in supporting the Grant

Specialist in implementing a corporate-wide grant management system

(currently Instrumental)
Community Relations & Marketing
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Community

Relations/Marketing to create compelling donor communications and

campaigns.
  • Develop an integrated strategy utilizing Community Relations

activities as donor identification activities,

  • Ensure consistent messaging across all development/fundraising

materials and platforms.
Communications
  • Provide strategic oversight of all development-related

communications to ensure alignment with fundraising priorities,

donor cultivation goals, and organizational messaging across

platforms and materials.
  • Direct and integrate communications activities as intentional tools

for donor identification, engagement, stewardship, and advancement

along the giving continuum.
  • Supervise, guide, and evaluate the Communications Specialist to

ensure timely, high-quality delivery of donor-focused

communications, campaigns, and materials that support development

and revenue-generation objectives.
Coordination of Functional Area
  • Define, document, and regularly reinforce the distinct roles,

deliverables, and performance expectations of each direct report

(e.g., Communications, Grants, Events, Donor Relations), ensuring

each function operates with appropriate autonomy while remaining

aligned with organizational strategy and Chief Executive

Officerdefined priorities.
  • Coordinate the work of direct reports as a cohesive unit by aligning

timelines, messaging, fundraising strategies, and outreach

activities to ensure seamless support of agency-wide initiatives,

programs, and corporate objectives established by the Chief

Executive Officer
  • Translate CEO-defined corporate needs into coordinated annual and

multi-year development and communications plans, balancing

workloads, sequencing initiatives, and a locating internal and

external resources to maximize organizational impact.
  • Maintain regular team coordination through structured meetings,

shared work plans, and performance reviews; foster collaboration,

professional development, and accountability while serving as the

primary liaison between the Development & Communications unit and

the Chief Executive Officer.
Leadership & Team Management
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations for

supervised staff.

  • Foster a collaborative and goal-oriented work environment.

Data & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate donor records and generate reports for the

Executive Director and Board.

  • Analyze fundraising metrics to inform strategy and improve outcomes.
