Job description

This is a senior-level fundraising role with real weight behind it — a $5M individual annual goal and contribution to a $50M+ team target signals this organization is a large, nationally recognized nonprofit. The scope and budget place this firmly at the Director level in major nonprofit fundraising hierarchies.

Compensation context: No salary is listed, but Development Directors with $5M+ portfolios at national nonprofits typically earn $120,000–$180,000 annually in the US, with top-tier organizations exceeding $200K for proven closers. The lack of posted salary is a mild yellow flag — always negotiate based on your track record of closed gifts.

Skills you'll build:

  • C-suite relationship management and enterprise-level negotiation
  • Multi-stakeholder proposal development across program, marketing, and finance teams
  • CRM pipeline management (Raiser's Edge NXT is an industry-standard tool)
  • People management and mentoring of direct reports

Green flags: The role offers genuine leadership scope, cross-functional collaboration, and direct access to board members and executives — excellent for career visibility. Supporting youth-focused STEM and civic engagement initiatives adds mission-driven appeal.

Red flags to watch: The 50% travel requirement is substantial and may affect work-life balance significantly. The lack of benefits disclosure and salary transparency warrants careful due diligence before committing. Confirm team culture and turnover in the development department during interviews.
