Position Title:Development Coordinator, Northeast Region

Supervisor/Manager: Development Director, Northeast Region

Employment Classification: Fulltime – Salary Exempt

Location: Remote: New York Metro Area

Work Environment: Remote: Position is fully remote, requiring a home office setup with reliable internet connectivity.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all people affected by lupus through programs of research, education, and advocacy. As a key member of the Northeast Region team, the Development Coordinator will play a critical role in advancing the mission of the Lupus Foundation of America’s mission to improve the quality of life for those affected by lupus by supporting local fundraising and community initiatives in the Northeast region and Northeast Division.

This position is a key member of the LFA staff and often is the first point of contact for those reaching out to the Northeast region. The primary focus of this position will be event planning (walk logistics), community outreach, fundraising, social media and participant support.
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and organized individual with a strong commitment to making a positive impact within the Lupus Community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Event Planning (Walk Logistics), community outreach, fundraising, and participant support.

  • Lead logistics for NYC and NJ events, including planning, recruiting and coordinating volunteers and vendors.
  • Research and identify partnerships and fundraising opportunities.
  • Support participants and their fundraising efforts.
  • Work closely with the Development Director and Northeast team to support all regional awareness and fundraising events including the Lupus & You Empowerment Conferences and the Walk to End Lupus Now events.
  • Collaborate with volunteers, ambassadors, support group leaders, healthcare providers and community members to promote lupus education and advocacy efforts as required.
  • Coordinate and assist in the expansion of LFA programs and events in the region, forming partnerships where appropriate through outreach effort

Communications:

  • Create outreach strategies to promote the organization’s mission to the general public, our constituents, and donors.
  • Manage and maintain regional presence on all social media platforms (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) to increase event participation and community engagement.
  • Partner with National marketing team to ensure consistent messaging and branding.

Administration:

  • Perform administrative duties as identified, including, but not limited to, maintaining records as needed and data entry.
  • When appropriate opportunities arise, participate in national and regional committees.
  • Attend local, regional, and national meetings and workshops when necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to advance organizational objectives

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in Business Management, Project Management, Communications, or related field required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in event planning, preferably in nonprofit, with knowledge in event management, sponsorship sales, volunteer leadership and engagement, with a proven track record of exceeding fundraising goals.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong project management, organizational, and budgeting skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt to diverse audiences, including staff, volunteers, donors, vendors, constituents, and sponsors.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and presenting the LFA’s mission to groups.
  • Proficient in creating digital and other content (such as Canva) and managing all social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).
  • Proven ability to work well in a fast paced and team-based environment.
  • Self-starter and able to work independently and under pressure while managing multiple priorities, projects and deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high-level attention to detail.
  • High proficiency with computer software and applications with a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, donor tracking database programs, and fundraising software.
  • Customer service, relationship development experience

Other Requirements:

  • Candidate must reside in the New York Metro area.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed, both virtually and in person.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to perform job duties within the Northeast. Division, with occasional travel to headquarters in Washington D.C. – 25% of time.
  • Must have a dedicated home office or workspace with reliable internet connectivity, ensuring the ability to perform job duties effectively and participate in virtual meetings without disruptions.
  • Ability to interact with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to lift 35+ pounds.
