Vermont Stage is a nonprofit theatre company based in Burlington, Vermont, dedicated to creating theatre that connects us to each other and the world. We produce bold, engaging plays that spark conversation, deepen empathy, and celebrate the complexity of being human. Every season, we welcome thousands of audience members and students into our community through our mainstage productions and arts education programming.

The Role

We’re looking for a part-time Development Coordinator to help fuel the work on our stage by supporting fundraising, sponsorships, advertising, and grant seeking efforts. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys writing, research, and relationship-building—and who wants to make a real impact on the vitality of the arts in Vermont.

This position is remote and highly flexible, averaging 10 hours per week, but applicants must be based in Vermont. It’s perfect for a freelancer, early-career development professional, a retired development professional that is itching for a parttime gig, or anyone who wants to support the arts while working on their own schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and reach out to potential corporate sponsors and advertisers for Vermont Stage’s season of plays.
  • Research and support outreach to major donor prospects, including preparing background briefs and helping coordinate meetings or follow-up.
  • Support the drafting and submission of grant proposals and reports, with guidance from the Producing Artistic Director.
  • Maintain accurate donor and sponsor records in our donor database and spreadsheets.
  • Assist with donor acknowledgments and benefit tracking.
  • Occasionally support the planning and execution of donor events.
  • Have strong writing and communication skills.
  • Enjoy research and are curious about people, businesses, and funders.
  • Are organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable juggling multiple projects.
  • Are self-motivated and able to work independently (with support when needed).
  • Have some experience in fundraising, marketing, or nonprofit work—especially in the arts. (That said, we’re open to transferable skills.)

Details at a Glance

  • $20–$24/hour, commensurate with experience
  • Schedule: 10 hours/week, flexible
  • Location: Remote (must be based in Vermont)
  • Start Date: August 15 or September 1

To Apply

Please send a cover letter introducing yourself, a 1-page writing sample (grant writing or donor appeal writing preferred), and your resume to Cristina Alicea, Producing Artistic Director, at cristina@vermontstage.org . In your cover letter, tell us why you’re interested and how your skills might be a match (or transferable)—we’d love to hear from you.Applications accepted until the position is filled.
