• Strong time management skills, ability to work with strict and tight deadlines
• Strong research and analytical skills using online databases and other sources
• Excellent interpersonal skills across a range of contacts including board members, funders, potential funders, Biocom members, vendors, staff, and volunteers. Includes effectively employing tact, integrity, confidentiality, diplomacy, and flexibility
• Proficiency in MS Office

Responsibilities

• Oversee grants management activities including developing proposals and writing funding applications to foundations, corporations, and government entities.
• Coordinate with Generation STEAM staff to support grant deliverables.
• Work with the Manager, Community Relations to create grant-related budgets.
• Assemble and submit grant requests, including letters of inquiry, proposals, budgets, and presentations.
• Be involved in on-site visits and presentations with funders.
• Maintain grant tracking systems to manage data including but not limited to due dates, reporting metrics, submission deadlines, and expenditures.
• Support donor and sponsor stewardship through acknowledgments, updates, program information, photographs, and other communications.
• Track and coordinate sponsor recognition and benefits to ensure commitments are fulfilled accurately and on time.
• Work in Salesforce, with the Manager, Community Relations, to maintain an up-to-date database and calendar for outreach, funding submissions, funding awards, and other development related activities.
• Provide reports to Manager, Community Relations on status of proposals in progress and proposals pending.
• Manage competing priorities and deadlines while ensuring all required proposal materials and deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
• Maintain organized electronic files for all grants.
• Research and identify prospective funders and funding opportunities, and conduct contact research to identify appropriate decision-makers and points of contact for outreach.
• Complete projects using a variety of software and digital platforms including but not limited to Instrumentl, Salesforce, Salesloft, Canva, and Excel.
• Collect and maintain current sponsor logos and organizational assets.
• Schedule and facilitate calls between potential high-level funders and Manager of Community Relations.
• Assist in generating, editing, publishing, and sharing marketing content in support of development. This includes but is not limited to social media posts, newsletters, email marketing, and sponsorship menus.
• Provide support and assistance with pre, day of, and post program activities.
• Assist with event attendance, tabling, registration, sponsor recognition, and other event-related activities as needed.
• Assist with other fundraising projects as requested.

Job description

A 501(c)3 with a mission to empower the next generation of visionaries through K-12 STEAM (science, technology, education, arts, and math) education and exploration. Generation STEAM is an affiliate of Biocom, California’s largest life science advocacy organization.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Manager, Community Relations, the Development Coordinator will support Generation STEAM’s fundraising and development efforts. This position will research and identify prospective funding opportunities, develop and submit grant and sponsorship proposals, and support timely and meaningful reporting and stewardship for funders.

The Development Coordinator will also support corporate partnership development through prospecting and outreach to potential partners, speakers, and volunteers. This includes researching contacts, initiating outreach, maintaining accurate records, and helping connect corporate partners with opportunities to engage with Generation STEAM’s programs and events.

In addition to fundraising and partnership development, the Development Coordinator will provide administrative and project support for development activities, including maintaining grant and prospect records, tracking deadlines and deliverables, supporting donor and sponsor stewardship, and assisting with special projects. Attendance and support at Generation STEAM programs, events, and community activities will also be an important component of the role.

This position requires an individual who shows initiative and creativity, strong attention to detail, exercises independent judgment, possesses strong verbal and written communication skills, an ability to multi-task, work within a team, and demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions:

The employee will frequently sit; talk; use hands to touch, handle, feel or operate tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee will occasionally walk and must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 lbs. The employee must be able to see closely and be able to adjust focus for use of the computer. The employee must be able to hear and speak in order to use phone equipment to direct calls and take messages.

Additional Physical Demands & Travel:

Throughout the duration of this position, employee may be required to work more than the normal 40 over per regular work week. Must be available some evenings, early mornings and weekends as needed in relation to the event and program delivery schedule. Employee will be asked to travel throughout the duration of this position to meetings, programs, and events. Both statewide and out of state travel may be asked at times. Additional physical

demands leading up to large events/programs (i.e., Festival Week) and delivery during and just following these events may include long periods of standing, walking, talking as well as an increased manual labor such as lifting boxes, loading vehicles, site teardowns, etc.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $28–$32 per hour and will include a 5% target bonus opportunity. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education etc. Biocom is a multi-state and multi-regional employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states and regions.
