Abrazo Arrowhead Campus in Glendale is seeking a neonatal developmental specialist to conduct initial and ongoing assessments, develop care plans, and provide written reports to the infant's chart and the State of Arizona.

Job Summary

Responsible for conducting initial and ongoing neonatal neuro‑developmental assessments and providing written evaluations (N.I.D.C.A.P. format) and care plans for the infant's chart, family and the State of Arizona. Must provide written plans/reports to the State of AZ on a quarterly and annual basis, and attend required state meetings. Provides optimal developmental interventions to high‑risk infants following accepted standards and offers appropriate developmental education to families, staff and the community as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical Coordination: Assist in formulating individualized developmentally supportive care strategies with team members that impact long‑term outcomes. Provide feedback to staff to promote excellence in care.
  • Provide mandatory formal Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program (NIDCAP) or other developmentally supportive assessment observations for the medically fragile neonate.
  • Facilitate Individualized Developmental Care approaches as standard of care in the nursery. Provide developmental consultation, in‑services, and mentoring of staff. Lead the developmental team and facilitate daily medical rounds.
  • Refer cases to and consult with social workers to promote appropriate continued stay or discharge. Identify patients and families with complex psychosocial issues and refer them to the social worker as appropriate.
  • Utilize hospital and community resources while caring for the daily needs of the patient.
  • Discharge Planning: Identify potential barriers to discharge or transfer and coordinate with multidisciplinary team members to resolve barriers when possible.
  • Consult with medical staff, hospital staff, family, community care providers, and patients to facilitate coordination of clinical activities, ensuring a seamless transition from one level of care to another. Appropriately delegate within the team.
  • Perform other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Special Skills
    • Basic computer skills
    • Operates audio/visual equipment including overhead projector, slide projector, and VCR
    • Has knowledge of adult learning theory and communicates effectively in writing and speech
    • Excellent customer service skills
  • Minimum Requirements
    • Education: Current Arizona state RN license, OT or PT
    • Experience: 2 years background or experience focusing on developmental care is required; assessment of neonatal patients relative to developmental status is also required
    • Licensure/Certifications
      • Licensure as required for RN, OT or PT
      • NIDCAP reliability required on hire
      • BLS required on hire
  • Preferred Requirements
    • Education: Nursing degree from an accredited nursing school
    • Experience: 3 years background or experience focusing on developmental care is preferred
