Job summary

The University of Miami's UHealth Division of Development and Alumni Relations has an opening for a full-time Development Associate in Miami, FL. You will support fundraising programs, help to establish donor connections, and work with the Sr.

Director to deepen engagement and grow philanthropic gifts. Responsibilities include managing a portfolio of mid-level prospects, researching donors, coordinating communications, and identifying events to cultivate major gifts, while documenting activities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required with one year of relevant fundraising or related experience.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken, with strong attention to detail and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to manage multiple projects independently.

Responsibilities

  • Support fundraising programs for Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and donor engagement strategies.
  • Manage a portfolio of mid-level prospects and coordinate research to identify fundraising opportunities.
  • Identify and elevate prospective major gift donors (50K+) to philanthropy officers; plan and execute communications and events.
  • Document all donor interactions and proposals in donor records; collaborate with the Senior Director and team to reach goals.

The Development Associate plays an important role in supporting the fundraising programs for Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Development Associate works with the Sr. Director of Development to plan and execute development activities designed to establish donor connections with the institution and help to deepen engagement and foster an environment that leads to philanthropic gifts.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Work collaboratively with Sylvester and DAR to implement a strategic and multi-faceted development plan to attract, retain, and increase the support of mid-level donors ($1,000 - $10,000 annual giving).
  • Manage portfolio of mid-level prospects.
  • Leads research and discovery efforts to identify current donors with potential to elevate their giving.
  • In consultation with Senior Director, identify and elevate prospective major gift donors ($50K and above) to philanthropy officers and/or planned giving team.
  • Work with philanthropic giving and digital engagement team to identify mid-level prospects from direct mail donors.
  • Create communication plan to engage and steward donors meaningfully and increase giving levels.
  • In coordination with Senior Director, identify events and activities to cultivate and grow major donor interest.
  • Document all contacts, communications, visits, and proposals in i-BIS and other appropriate donor records.
Measurements of success for Development Associate:
  • Make an appropriate amount of substantive qualifications, cultivation and solicitation actions toward closing gifts. Numbers established with supervisor.
  • Reach individual yearly goals for "number and amounts solicited" and "number and amounts funded." Reach additional goals as acting as a collaborator. Number established with supervisor.
  • Manage an appropriate number of active prospects and active proposals. Number and amounts to be established with supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience.
  • Must be solution-oriented and able to work independently to successfully complete projects on deadline.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both oral and written with a high level of creativity, attention to detail and superior customer service skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Must have initiative mixed with good, sound judgment, and a high level of discretion to handle sensitive information.
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work in a dynamic team environment across multiple divisions.
