Job Purpose:

The Development Assistant works collaboratively within the MMSC team and is responsible for assisting the State Director and Strategic Partnership Coordinator with implementation of partnerships and resources to sustain the work that Missouri Main Street Connection provides to our network. The Development Assistant will support Missouri Main Street by working directly with the Strategic Partnership Coordinator on grant writing, research, and reporting, as well as creating grant-related resources for the Missouri Main Street network. The role also involves partnership recruitment and relationship building in support of the State Director, Strategic Partnership Coordinator, and the MMSC Board of Directors.

Duties:
Grant Support
  • Support Strategic Partnership Coordinator on grant writing.
  • Assist in creating grant educational materials and resources for the MMSC network, and respond to grant questions and research requests.
  • Responsible for grant reporting on received grants, typically from organizations like the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Missouri Humanities Council, and Missouri Arts Council.
  • Conduct research to identify new grants for Missouri Main Street and its network.
  • Manage the monthly newsletter for the Grant Resource Directory, including formatting and scheduling, and oversee related resources on the MMSC website.
Partnership Support
  • Participate in partnership recruitment efforts with the State Director and Strategic Partnership Coordinator, including for the state conference.
  • Organize partnership mailings and correspondence.
  • Ensure partners receive their benefits.
  • Support the Financial Development Committee meetings as staff.
General Duties
  • Respond to emails and phone inquiries, providing information as needed.
  • Assist with planning and executing the state conference, trainings, meetings, and other projects.
  • Participate in the Staff Action Plan.
  • Support public relations and educational initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisors.
  • Help communicate as a statewide advocate for downtown and district revitalization.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Degree in a related field such as architecture, historic preservation, community development, or similar disciplines.
  • Experience with Main Street or community economic development is desirable but not required.
  • Effective communication skills in both oral and written forms.
  • Ability to work well with colleagues at all levels, be a team player, and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Dependability, self-motivation, strong computer skills, and effective time management.
  • Ability to travel statewide about 10%, including overnight stays, with a reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license.
  • Strong organizational skills, adaptability, and flexibility in a dynamic environment.
  • Reliable attendance is required.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to move up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional stairs or ladder use.
  • Operate standard office equipment.
