Chelan County Comunty Development Dept. is seeking an experienced construction inspector to oversee county and private road projects, utilities within right-of-way, and related construction to ensure compliance with plans and specs.

Requires high school diploma or GED and at least four years of field experience in public works; valid WA driver license; offers state retirement, health benefits including HSA contributions, 11 holidays, and vacation/sick leave.

Responsibilities

• Review plans for subdivision construction projects.
• Field measurements to verify dimension accuracy.
• Verify elevations for road/easement alignment and installations.
• Construction inspection to ensure field procedures and materials conform to plans.
• Inspect utility installations for location, grade, and restoration to standards.
• Ensure contractors follow approved plans and report deviations as needed.
• Record quantities of materials and maintain daily logs.
• Monitor 811 requests and locate county facilities as required.
• Assist Addressing and Development Technician in driveway inspections.

Description

The salary range is step 2 at $5,227.39 per month up to step 8 at $6,854.79 per month. Starting salary is dependent on qualifications and experience. Employees receive a progression of steps until reaching Step 8.

Summary

Inspects and oversees construction of new county and private roads, improvements to existing county roads, construction of utilities within the county road right-of-way and other types of construction work to ensure that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Reviewing plans for new subdivision construction projects.
• Field measurements to verify dimension accuracy of structural installation and layout.
• Verify elevation of road/easement alignment and structure installation.
• Construction inspection to ensure that field procedures and materials used conform to project specifications.
• Inspection of utility installations for approval of location, grade, and road crossing restoration to conform to County standards.
• Assure that the contractors are following the approved construction plans and specifications and provide information to the engineer on deviations for approval from specified construction procedures to ensure compliance with regulations governing construction.
• Recording quantities of materials received or used during specified construction periods.
• Maintaining a daily log of construction and inspection activities and comparing progress reports.
• Monitor 811 requests and locate county owned facilities as required.
• Assist the Addressing and Development Technician in inspecting driveways, when needed.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED and a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in construction, public works, or related field operations. Relevant experience may include roadway, utility or private development construction, surveying and right-of-way, construction inspection, surface water management, or other field?based public works activities. Training or coursework in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or similar vocational programs is beneficial.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate elevations, grades, quantities and utilize conversion formulas of construction materials.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

A valid Washington State driver license.
