Founding Developer Relations Lead (San Francisco, Full-time)
Our client has built an AI agent capable of using tools across the web, giving other builders’ AI agents reliable access to web data through MCP, API, and SDK interfaces. Its technology is already integrated into the broader AI ecosystem alongside major players such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Vercel, and LlamaIndex.
The company is in a high-growth phase, scaling a team of engineers, researchers, designers, marketers, and sellers. This is a rare opportunity to shape the developer motion of a company at the center of the agentic AI wave.
In this high-visibility solo role, you will build and lead the Developer Relations function from the ground up. Reporting to the Head of Ecosystem Engineering, you will be the face of the company to developers: translating technical capabilities into developer stories, engaging ecosystem partners, and driving community adoption with a balance of technical credibility and strategic leadership.
What you’ll do
- Own the DevRel strategy, initiatives, campaigns, and messaging
- Build apps and integrations on the company’s AI search and web search agent products, and share them with developers on X, Discord, GitHub, and beyond
- Create high-quality content, from thought leadership to hands-on tutorials and examples
- Represent the company at developer events, hackathons, and conferences, with regular travel to events in SF, NYC, and Las Vegas
- Shape the product, documentation, and storytelling through direct developer feedback
- Partner with tech influencers and thought leaders to amplify the company’s story
Your first 90 days
- Month 1: Get hands-on with the platform. Launch a working demo built on the company’s tools, publish your debut piece of developer content, and be able to walk anyone through how a developer goes from discovery to production.
- Month 2: Show early traction. Your content should be sending developers to the documentation and converting them into new accounts. Pinpoint the three biggest obstacles developers hit when getting started, and recommend how to remove them.
- Month 3: Make it sustainable. Run an ongoing content and community program whose impact on new developer accounts can be clearly tracked, and show that developers arriving through your channels are reaching their first successful integration faster.
Must-haves
- Experience: 5+ years in developer relations, software engineering, or sales engineering
- Hands-on AI building: you’ve built and shipped AI agents or apps with modern tooling (e.g., LangChain, Cursor, v0, Baseten), with public proof such as GitHub repos or live demos
- Technical content: a public track record of developer content across blogs, video, podcasts, or social, with links to share
- Live technical presentation: experience giving live demos and talks to developer audiences
- Developer instinct: a clear understanding of how developers evaluate, adopt, and champion technical products, and how communities form around them
- Point of view on AI: well-reasoned views on deploying AI productively, reliably, and responsibly
- Location: able to work on-site in San Francisco
