Job summary

Mayo Clinic in Minnesota is seeking a developer for the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology to design, validate, and implement novel laboratory tests and methods under strong scientific guidance. You will improve existing assays, organize validation data, and prepare publications while presenting findings to peers.

Ideal candidates will have strong analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to work independently.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science or related field with 2 years of relevant lab experience
  • Bachelor's degree plus MLS certificate with 2 years of experience
  • HEW certificate may substitute for the degree
  • Other clinical lab specialty certificates reviewed case-by-case

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

As a developer in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, you will develop, innovate, evaluate and implement novel tests, methodologies, technologies, or products for the laboratory under the intellectual and scientific guidance of the Laboratory directors. Your responsibilities include:

  • Developing new/ novel tests of proven validity within the work unit
  • Improvement of existing methods
  • Organizing new method validation data
  • Preparing data for publication and peer review
  • Participating in formal presentations
  • Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to apply to other positions within Mayo Clinic.
  • This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship; Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science (CLS/MLS), medical technology (MT), chemistry, or a biological science, and 2 years of relevant laboratory experience, OR
  • Bachelor's degree and a certificate in MLS, and 2 years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • A HEW certificate may be substituted for the specified degree.
  • Other clinical laboratory specialty certificates will be reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis.
Additional Qualifications
  • Experience with the following platforms: LC-MSMS, GC-MSMS, and HPCL is preferred.
  • Master's degree in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science or medical technology or Doctoral degree (PhD) in chemistry or a biological science preferred.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, efficient, and able to work independently exercising strong critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
  • Capable of reproducing a reference method using available procedures without supervision.
  • Demonstrated analytical and scientific competency with development and/or validation of lab techniques or procedures.
  • Experience with data collection, organization, analysis and delivery of information.
  • ASCP or other certification pertinent to the laboratory field may be required depending on the laboratory specialty and prevailing regulatory requirements.
