Job summary

Mayo Clinic is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician/Technologist to join our national lab team in Wisconsin. The role involves collecting and processing specimens, performing clinical tests with a variety of instruments, and upholding QC/QA standards to ensure accurate results.

You will collaborate with providers and work across multiple lab sections while supporting weekend, overnight, and holiday coverage.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology (MT), MLS, CLS or related field with NAACLS-recognized certificate required.
  • Nonexempt status.
  • Must be available to work weekends, overnight, and holiday shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, receive, and process specimens in a safe, accurate, and professional manner.
  • Perform clinical testing using automated, semi-automated, and manual methods.
  • Maintain QC/QA procedures and instrument maintenance; troubleshoot equipment.
  • Communicate critical values to providers and clinicians; document results.
  • Work across Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology/PCR, Urinalysis, and Receiving and Processing Specimens.

Responsibilities

Collect, receive, and process the appropriate specimens (body fluids, blood, urine, swabs, stools, etc.) in a safe, accurate, and professional manner with the proper technique. Perform clinical testing using a variety of automated, semi-automated, and/or manual technology as defined by current job assignment. Perform quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures to ensure accurate reporting of test results. Perform daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance of various equipment. Troubleshoot machines and solve technical issues. Follow standard precautions at all times. Participate in external quality controls like CAP proficiencies and perform laboratory competencies. Maintain laboratory documentation and files. Display competency in phlebotomy for all age ranges from pediatrics to geriatrics. Conduct validation, verification, and correlation of the equipment. Communicate effectively to providers, nurses, and colleagues regarding critical values and clinical care. Perform in different sections of the laboratory: Blood Banking, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology/PCR, Urinalysis, and Receiving and Processing Specimens. Perform operational support functions to facilitate workflow. Must be available to work weekends, overnight, and holiday shifts.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology (MT), Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) OR a Bachelor's degree in a field related to medical laboratory science along with a Certificate in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS), or Medical Technology (MT), as recognized by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) required.

Skills
  • Microscopic analysis;
  • Proficiency in medical laboratory procedures and the use of medical laboratory instruments;
  • Applied knowledge of Blood Bank theory;
  • Applied chemistry knowledge in the context of a medical laboratory;
  • Microbiology/PCR skills;
  • Applied Hematology/Coagulation knowledge in the context of a medical laboratory;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy and specimen collection techniques in the context of a medical laboratory;
  • Applied Urinalysis knowledge in the context of a medical laboratory.
