Job summary

TALENT Software Services is seeking a seasoned mainframe applications analyst for the EDIG team in a fast-paced, on-site role. You will perform all phases of analysis and design, translate business requirements into technical specs, and guide development from COBOL to DB2/IMS environments.

Expect on-call duties and a 8-5 schedule with possible after-hours as needed. The successful candidate will have 4+ years in application development and the ability to communicate clearly, work under pressure,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• 4 years of related work experience or 2 years with an associate's degree.

Duties

Perform all phases of applications systems analysis and design. Analyze systems specifications and develop applications to support information systems processes. Prepare detailed specifications from which complex programs will be written. Design, code, test, debug, document and maintain these programs. Formulates scope and objectives through research to develop or modify complex systems.

• 20% Ensure team members understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions, organizational standards are maintained, and applications are delivered according to project timeliness. Provide expert system knowledge, perform research, attend meetings, and review documents.
• 20% Maintain and modify programs according to specifications. Code, compile, and implement application software that is delivered on time and within budget. Evaluate basic interrelationships in immediate programming area to determine how changes in one program will affect another related area.
• 20% Test modified programs, create necessary test files and data, verify logic, debug, and write relevant documentation.
• 20% Analyze production systems, recommend systems enhancements, provide instruction to production support team. Research customer issues and determine appropriate resolutions. Coordinate implementation of modifications or enhancements.
• 20% Analyze and evaluate existing or proposed systems. Develop functional design and technical specifications, concept diagrams, and work flow diagrams and related procedures to process data using appropriate systems environment/platform. Document programs/procedures.

Skills

Minimum Required Skills and Abilities: Strong understanding of applications/development, quality assurance and integration methodologies, concepts and facilities in a mainframe, midrange, and/or PC/LAN environment. Strong analysis, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrates logical abstract thinking and assimilating/adhering to project goals and deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Able to work well under pressure and as part of a team. Strong knowledge of interpersonal skills/team building. Familiar with project management concepts. Pays attention to detail. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, clients, vendors etc.

Minimum Required Software and Other Tools: Strong knowledge of relevant operating systems, programming languages, and development tools and their usage in the company.

Work Environment: Customer-focused, project-oriented programming environment. Fast paced, multi-platformed environment which may require action and response 24X7 to support the technical business needs of the customer.

The Team

EDIG - Small team of 5-9 developers working with 2 other sub-groups within a larger team. EDIG is comprised of a Host Team, Non-Host Team, and Operations team. This position is on the Host Team.

Day to Day

Day to Day: The position resides in the EDIG (Electronic Data Interchange Gateway) team working on the host side with a small team of developers. The position requires that the individual can pass a C-2 Security Clearance. We are looking for a self-starter and team player. The main software used in this position is COBOL (Mainframe, Micro Focus), CICS, DB2, IMS, MQ, IBM Batch JCL, Easytrieve, Client Code Generator, Vendor Pricing Software, MS Office, and EDz vendor product for Client on non-host. The position works closely with the team lead on direction and job assignment. The position has on-call responsibilities in addition to the day-to-day responsibilities. The host side interacts with a non-host team and operations team in order to support the EDIG process managing healthcare claims.
