Job summary

Thinking Machines in San Francisco, CA seeks an engineer focused on developer experience to help build Tinker and enable researchers to tailor frontier AI. You will write recipes, tutorials, and code samples to make fine-tuning pipelines smooth.

This is a technical-first, user-facing role that pairs coding with collaboration across product and infra teams, and you’ll share insights through blog posts, demos, and open guidance to help users succeed.

Qualifications

• Experience fine-tuning large language models (LLMs) with supervised and RL—tuning hyperparameters.
• Proven experience developing software libraries, especially open-source libraries.
• Thoughtful about developer experience, onboarding, and UX around APIs.
• Active participation in open-source communities via code, questions, or talks.
• Have written public or internal code examples, tutorials, or papers to help others.

Responsibilities

• Write, test, and maintain high-quality code examples, recipes, and documentation for Tinker cookbook.
• Work with users to debug issues and optimize fine-tuning pipelines.
• Partner with research and infra teams to prioritize developer experience improvements.
• Build tools, integrations, and demos to reduce user friction and enable model deployment.
• Share insights through blog posts, demos, and talks.
• Help develop Tinker's near-term roadmap and long-term product strategy.
