Job summary

Cape is hiring a Developer Experience Engineer to make its engineers faster and less frustrated by owning internal platforms, tooling, and workflows. You’ll shape CI/CD, local dev environments, and AI-assisted development, delivering measurable improvements in time-to-merge and build reliability.

You will collaborate with platform, product, and security teams to ship secure, scalable tooling across the engineering organization and report to engineering leadership.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering experience on internal platforms, developer tooling, or infrastructure.
• Track record of reducing developer friction by shipping practical tooling.
• Fluency in at least one modern backend language — Go preferred; Python/TypeScript/Rust welcomed.
• Hands-on experience improving and optimizing CI/CD systems at engineering scale.

Responsibilities

• Own internal tooling and SDKs used by Cape engineers, from scaffolding to testing utilities.
• Manage local development environments, containers, secrets, dependencies, and onboarding time for new engineers.
• Evaluate and introduce new tools; track adoption and feedback; deprecate ineffective tooling.
• Write docs and runbooks making complex infrastructure accessible to engineers who aren’t infrastructure experts.
• Design infrastructure that speeds code-to-deploy with high confidence across product surfaces.
• Drive reliability by reducing flaky tests, non-reproducible builds, and environment drift.
