Job summary

Holtec International is seeking a DSA Engineer II to develop and perform safety analyses demonstrating licensing compliance for the SMR-300. You will evaluate reactor behavior during AOOs/DBAs, analyze core systems, and support licensing documentation.

Responsibilities include code development and V&V, collaboration with engineering teams, and producing detailed reports in line with NQA-1 standards. Requires 3+ years in LWR safety analysis and CFR Part 810 eligibility.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Familiarity with thermal-hydraulic behavior of light water reactors (LWRs).
  • Familiarity with industry computer codes such as RELAP5, RETRAN, COBRA, VIPRE, GOTHIC, etc.
  • At least 3 years’ experience developing and/or using codes and methods associated with LWR safety analysis calculations.
  • Excellent technical writing, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Eligible to work under 10 CFR Part 810.

  • Analyze key plant systems such as the reactor core, reactor coolant system, engineered safety features, and containment.
  • Support the preparation of licensing documentation, including safety analysis reports and responses to regulatory inquiries.
  • Develop, maintain, and apply analytical methods and computer models used in safety analyses.
  • Perform verification and validation (V&V) of analysis codes to ensure accuracy, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to integrate design inputs into safety evaluations.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, calculations, and documentation in accordance with quality assurance standards (e.g., NQA-1).
  • Ensure analyses are traceable, reproducible, and compliant with applicable regulatory and industry requirements.

Job description

The DSA Engineer II will be responsible for developing methods and performing analyses to demonstrate that the SMR-300 satisfies its safety and licensing requirements. These types of analyses include evaluations of the reactor core, reactor coolant system, engineered safety features, containment, and radiological releases associated with anticipated operational occurrences (AOOs) and design basis accidents (DBAs). Additionally, the DSA group is responsible for the development, verification, and validation of the computer codes used in these analyses.
