Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Radiological Engineer in Reston, VA to interface with clients and execute project work on nuclear power plants. You will contribute to radiological dose calculations, source term analyses, and monitoring system design across domestic and international projects, with site visits and travel as needed.

The role requires ABET-accredited engineering education and 7+ years in radiation monitoring systems, strong NRC knowledge, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
• 7+ years experience with radiation monitoring systems.
• Experience with calibration and detection capability of radiation monitoring systems.
• Working knowledge of NRC regulations and guidance for licensing/licensing renewal.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• PE license desired.

Responsibilities

• Interface with clients on radiological engineering projects.
• Design and engineer upgrades/modifications for nuclear power plants.
• Work on domestic and international projects and attend progress meetings.
• Travel to client offices and plant sites for progress reviews; may involve international travel.

Responsibilities

We offer you a variety of interesting and challenging opportunities in nuclear/radiological engineering.This Radiological Engineering position will provide you with opportunities for interfacing with clients and includes project work execution responsibilities.

You will work with multi-disciplineengineering project teams engaged in the design and engineeringof upgrades and modifications to new and existing nuclear power plants in the following areas:

• Radiological dose calculations
• Radiation source term calculations
• Radiation monitoring system design

In addition, you will:

• Work on both domestic and international nuclear power plant projects
• Travel to client offices and plant site locations to attend project progress meetings; travel may involve both domestic and international travel to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East
• Perform site walk-downs
• Address emergent issues and provide technical support to clients

Qualifications

Essential skills and experience:

• BS or MS degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
• A minimum of 7 years of experience with radiation monitoring systems including types of radiation detectors and their operation, signal processing, and mechanical/electrical interfaces with plant systems
• Experience with the calibration and detection capability of radiation monitoring systems including primary calibrations, secondary/transfer calibrations, energy calibrations, energy response characteristics, and reference isotopes
• Working knowledge of NRC regulations and guidance that apply to licensing and license renewal of nuclear power plants
• Experience with some or all of the following computer programs:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• PE license desired, but not required

Compensation Range

$100,019 - $152,807
