Job summary

The City of Winchester is seeking a Juvenile Detention Center staff member to supervise residents and ensure safety within the facility. You will work shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays and assist with behavior management and documentation.

Responsibilities include maintaining discipline, supervising residents on the unit, intervening during incidents per policy, providing basic counseling, and accurately recording behavioral information in logs and incident reports.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Some experience with youth groups.
• General knowledge of behavioral science principles and current social and economic conditions.
• Working knowledge of psychological and emotional problems involved in socially maladjusted youth and ability to work with them under stress.
• Ability to work in the stressful environment of a Juvenile Detention Center.
• Ability to learn, comprehend and use a personal computer for Detention Center data and materials.

• Willing and able to work days, evening, weekends, and holidays (Monday-Friday 6:45 am- 2:45 pm)
• Maintain discipline and control of the residents
• Maintain direct supervision of the residents on the unit, in classrooms, during clean-up, recreation and during meal time, assuring security and safety of the resident and coworkers
• Intervene with residents when situation dictates, utilizing the appropriate interventions as delineated by the Detention Center Policy and Procedures
• Employ basic counseling skills to help relieve residents' anxieties and tensions, but limited to the current situation within the detention facility
• Read and document pertinent behavioral information about the residents in log books and special incident reports.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
• Some experience with youth groups
• General knowledge of behavioral science principles and of current social and economic conditions
• Working knowledge of psychological and emotional problems involved in socially maladjusted youth and demonstrate the ability to work positively and effectively with severely maladjusted youth in situation involving considerable stress
• Ability to work in the stressful environment of the Juvenile Detention Center
• Ability to learn, comprehend and use a personal computer in the generation of Detention Center data and pertinent materials
