Job summary

The Broward County Sheriff's Office invites applications for an entry-level detention position. The role involves attending a Corrections Academy to gain preparatory training for a detention career, with emphasis on safety, security, and service to detainees.

Candidates must meet minimum requirements, pass CJBAT/FBAT and the Physical Agility test, and submit the required documents. Training and supervision will guide the incumbent toward continued employment within the agency.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18 years.
• United States citizen prior to application.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must not have been convicted of a felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement as an adult. Other arrests/convictions reviewed case-by-case.
• Must successfully pass the Corrections Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT) or Florida Basic Abilities Test (FBAT) prior to submitting an application.
• Must successfully pass the PHYSICAL AGILITY test prior to submitting an application.
• If claiming Veterans' Preference, provide DD214.
• Must possess/maintain a valid Florida driver license with current address.
• Driving history must be attached to the online application.

Responsibilities

• Attends a Corrections Academy for preparatory training for a career in detention.
• Participates in training programs and performs routine and non-sworn tasks in support of detention functions.
• Enforces security rules, regulations and procedures and provides information to detainees.
• Assists in supervision and control of detainees and related duties as directed.
• Operates an agency vehicle when appropriate.
• Performs related duties as directed.
