Job summary

The Alachua County Sheriff's Office in Gainesville seeks a Detention Officer to maintain custody and control of inmates, conduct head counts, process new inmates, and enforce security procedures within the jail.

You will receive training, work under the supervision of a Detention Sergeant, and prepare disposition reports while ensuring safety and compliance. Benefits include health care, retirement, and paid time off.

Qualifications

• High School/GED required.
• Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree preferred (Criminal Justice / Public Administration or related field).
• Must meet Florida law correctional officer standards and ACSO training.
• Must pass physical agility standards and Defensive Tactics course.

Responsibilities

• Make periodic tours of the jail to inspect security and perform head counts.
• Receive, process, search, fingerprint and photograph inmates.
• Release inmates with proper authorization and return belongings.
• Operate security doors and supervise meals, medication, and mail.
• Transport inmates to court appearances as required.
• Prepare disposition reports and maintain accurate records.
