Job summary

The GEO Group, Inc. is seeking candidates for a full-time detention supervision role in Tacoma, WA. You will oversee detainees in multiple areas, manage movement and safety, and supervise labor crews, with a focus on maintaining a secure, orderly facility.

Ideal applicants have a high school diploma, some college in behavioral sciences, and the ability to handle stress. Overtime, long shifts, and residency in the U.S. for 5+ years are required, with valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • College coursework in behavioral sciences or related field; diversity training preferred.
  • Active US citizenship or permanent residency required.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to handle physical and mental stress.
  • Must be able to report to work on time.
  • Ability to work up to 16 hours in a rolling 24 hour period.
  • Correctional setting experience preferred.
  • Must be 21+ years old; valid driver's license.
  • Residency in the U.S. for past five consecutive years.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor detainees in living, recreation, dining, and visitation areas.
  • Coordinate detainee movement, conduct counts, and provide emergency response.
  • Ensure program activities stay safe and supervise labor crews.
  • Conduct shakedowns for contraband and confiscate prohibited items.
  • Keep daily logs on detainees, including disciplinary reports.
  • Provide prompt assistance to those injured or traumatized.
  • Report maintenance or repair needs to keep the facility clean.

Vacation Time

80 Hours - One (1) year but less than five (5) years

120 Hours - Five (5) years but less than ten (10) years

160 Hours - Ten (10) years but less than fifteen (15) years

200 Hours - Fifteen (15) years and above

SICK TIME

Earn one (1) hour for every thirty (30) hours worked.

Responsibilities

In this job, you will:

  • Supervise and monitor detainees in living, recreation, dining, and visitation areas.
  • Coordinate their movement (conducting counts and providing emergency response as needed).
  • Make sure program activities stay safe and supervise labor crews.
  • Conduct shakedowns for contraband materials (by yourself or with your team) and confiscate prohibited items as per policies and procedures.
  • Keep daily logs on detainees (including disciplinary reports).
  • Provide prompt and appropriate assistance to those who have been injured, ill, or have suffered trauma.
  • Report any maintenance or repair needs to keep your facility clean.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
  • College coursework and advanced training in behavioral sciences, correctional services or related field preferred. Training in cultural diversity or sensitivity preferred.
  • Possession of applicable state requisites for employment.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to handle physical and mental stress associated with working extended hours.
  • Must be able to regularly report to work without being late.
  • Ability to be physically alert on any shift that is assigned.
  • Ability to work up to sixteen (16) hours within a rolling 24 hour period.
  • Work experience in a correctional setting preferred.
  • Must be mature, flexible, able to command the respect and confidence of detainees as well as staff and possess a high tolerance to mental stress.
  • Must be a United States citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident.
  • Must have lived in the U.S. for the past five (5) consecutive years.
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Must have an active, valid driver's license.
