Job summary

City of Alvin is seeking a Detention Officer to maintain the City jail facility under direct supervision, following procedures to ensure care, custody and control of prisoners and the safety of staff and the public. The incumbent must exercise independent judgment per detailed instructions with strict adherence to standards, reporting to the Detention Supervisor.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED plus up to six months of jail operations experience, or an equivalent

Job Announcement: Under direct supervision, maintains the City jail facility and follows established procedures and policies to ensure the Care, Custody and Control of prisoners, as well as the safety and well-being of City personnel and the public. The incumbent must be able to exercise independent judgment and perform duties according to detailed instructions with strict adherence to prescribed standards and procedures, without close supervision. Reports directly to the Detention Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a high school diploma or GED supplemented by up to six months of experience in jail operations, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirements:
The Detention Officer is classified as an "Emergency Essential" position as described in the City of Alvin's Personnel Policy Manual. These employees may be required to remain or respond in the event of emergency conditions and be available immediately before (Pre-Impact), during (Emergency Period), and/or after the disaster or emergency condition (Post Impact/Recovery), to perform duties directly related to the emergency conditions as determined by the City.

Salary:
Starting salary is $17.98
