Job summary

Fort Bend County is looking for a Detention Deputy to maintain custody and a safe environment for inmates. Responsibilities include conducting head counts, supervising inmates, and ensuring safety standards. Applicants must have a High School Diploma, a valid Texas Driver’s License, and a TCOLE Peace Officer Certification or be enrolled in a police academy.

The role offers a salary of $33.60 per hour and requires strong communication and interpersonal skills. Full-time employees are part of the Texas County District Retirement System.

Qualifications

• Must currently hold a Basic TCOLE Peace Officer Certification or be enrolled in a Texas Basic Police Academy.
• Preferred - One year experience in law enforcement, military service, or college education.
• Must obtain and maintain TCOLE Basic Jailer Certification within the first year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Conducts head count and door checks regularly.
• Supervises feeding and hygiene activities of inmates.
• Prepares reports on activities and incidents.

Ability to work rotating shifts

Education

High School Diploma/GED

Basic (or higher) TCOLE Peace Officer Certification

30 semester credit hours from an accredited college or university
