Job summary

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Detective to solve complex investigations across major crimes, property offenses, narcotics, trafficking, and juvenile cases. You will lead preliminary and follow-up investigations with precision, prepare court-ready reports, and collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies.

Completion of the BLET certification and at least one year of detective experience are required.

Qualifications

• Completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) certificate program.
• One year of experience as a detective for a law enforcement agency (preferred).
• Must be a United States citizen, 20+ years old, valid North Carolina driver’s license.
• Must pass a comprehensive background check, polygraph, medical, drug screen, and psychological screening.

Responsibilities

• Interview victims, witnesses, and suspects as part of investigations.
• Identify, collect, and preserve physical evidence for cases.
• Apply modern investigative techniques to build strong cases.
• Prepare detailed reports and present findings in court.
• Conduct initial and follow-up investigations; interview connected persons; follow up information sources.
• Maintain a criminal investigative caseload and prepare affidavits for warrants.
• Serve as on-call officer and coordinate tasks on the scene.
• Transport suspects to the County Detention Center and participate in community policing.
