Job summary

Contact Government Services, LLC is seeking a Desktop/Workstation Design Engineer to architect and deploy desktop OS images across the enterprise. You will lead large-scale software deployment using MECM/MDT and develop test packages for desktops, laptops, tablets, and servers.

The role requires Windows OS engineering experience, scripting skills (PowerShell/VBScript), and involvement in security‑related tasks such as patch management and auditing.

Qualifications

• Experience deploying and upgrading Windows images at scale.
• Experience with Windows 10 image development and integration with Exchange/Office.
• Familiarity with OS deployment tools and software distribution pipelines.
• Knowledge of security controls, patch management, and auditing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Act as SME for desktop OS image development and deployment.
• Engineer large-scale software deployment solutions across desktops, laptops, tablets, and servers.
• Develop tests and packaging for software distribution and updates.
• Support OS patching infrastructure and vulnerability management.
• Evaluate hardware (desktop, laptop, tablet, server) for enterprise use.
• Provide security documentation and patch/audit activities as needed.

Desktop/Workstation Design Engineer

Employment Type: Full‑Time, Experienced

Skills and Attributes for Success

• Acts as the Subject Matter Expert for the development and implementation of the Desktop Operating System (OS) Images.
• Engineer robust solutions for large‑scale deployment of software using OS deployment technologies such as Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) and the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT).
• Develop tests and implement software distribution packages, including updates to software applications to be applied to desktops, laptops, tablets, and servers within the enterprise.
• Provide information and recommendations to meet various user‑based software requirements.
• Strong familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell and VBScript.
• Implement server OS deployment methodologies, including automated server build processes.
• Provide support for an OS patching infrastructure such as HCL BigFix or Windows Update/MECM that applies mandatory security updates to enterprise systems.
• Analyze, evaluate, and recommend desktop, laptop, tablet, and server hardware.
• Perform security‑related tasks which include documentation, vulnerability scan review, assessment support, patch management, and auditing as required.

Qualifications

• Experience integrating and upgrading desktops and laptops from Windows 7 to Windows 10, upgrading Microsoft and third‑party applications, and experience with litigating software such as Ipro and Concordance.
• Ability to work independently with only minor guidance; responsible for engineering a Windows 10 image on an Intel‑based system integrated with Microsoft Exchange 2013, Microsoft Office 2013, and various third‑party applications.
• Windows OS engineering experience.
• Understanding of the application of security controls on the image.
• Microsoft Office engineering experience.
• Integrating anti‑virus applications in an image.
• VPN/Remote access (Cisco Secure Access with RSA a plus).
• Windows scripting experience.
• Good writing skills.

Ideal Additional Skills

• VB and/or VBA coding experience a plus.
• VDI/Citrix experience.
• SMS/SCCM experience a plus.
• Understanding of PKI.
• VMWare experience.
• Litigating software such as Ipro and Concordance.
