Job summary

Consolidated Electrical Distributors is seeking a Desktop Support Technician to support and maintain Service Center systems and employees. You will provide onsite end-user support, handle hardware and software tasks, and assist with Windows OS configuration.

The role emphasizes customer service, quick problem-solving, and collaboration with staff at all levels. A bachelor’s degree and 2+ years' domain experience are preferred; strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
  • Two-plus years of experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting and repairing computers and applications in a domain environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to interact with diverse stakeholders.
  • Physical ability to lift 20 lbs and sit for long periods.
  • Proficient in reading/writing English and IT terminology.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to set up and operate PCs, printers and peripherals.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment supporting Service Center employees.
  • Provide internal technical support, password resets/account unlocks.
  • Imaging and software/hardware installation; break/fix.
  • Manage ticket queues and priorities.
  • Onboarding of new employees including hardware deployment.
  • Offboarding including account deactivation and hardware collection.
  • Provide phone support for end-users.
  • Offer customer service and guidance to Service Center personnel.
  • Monitor and report violations of IT policies.

Summary:

Consolidated Electrical Distributors Inc. is seeking a Desktop Support Technician to support and maintain all aspects of the Service Center's systems and employees. This will include but not be limited to face‑to‑face interaction with users, hardware and software tasks, onsite end‑user support, and configuration support of Windows operating systems. The successful candidate will display excellent customer service skills and quick decision making to identify and resolve technical inquiries as well as perform various technical and support tasks as assigned.

Reports to: IT Operations Manager

Minimum Qualifications:
  • + + Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
  • + + Two-plus years of experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting and repairing computers and applications in a domain environment
  • + + Possess a passion for providing excellent customer service
  • + + Confidence to interact with a wide range of people from clerical staff, network specialists, developers, senior management, and vendors
  • + + Physical qualifications required to perform the job function include the ability to lift 20 lbs. as well as to sit for long periods of time.
  • + + Proficiency to read, write and communicate orally the English language, especially IT technical terms and concepts.
  • + + Advanced math skills including: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios, discounts/multipliers and probabilities.
  • + + Knowledgeable in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • + + Competence to set up and operate a personal computer, printers and external computer peripherals.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • + + Knowledge of installing, configuring, monitoring and troubleshooting Windows and Apple computers.
  • + + Experience supporting Microsoft Office products including O365.
  • + + Active Directory administration experience.
  • + + Working knowledge of anti‑virus, anti‑spam applications.
  • + + Experience working with Help Desk ticketing systems.
  • + + Installation and support of video conferencing equipment.
  • + + Eagerness and ability to learn other hardware and software as they become pertinent to the business needs.
  • + + Proven troubleshooting skills.
  • + + Management and support of VPN access accounts.
  • + + Basic understanding of networking.
  • + + Extensive knowledge of computer applications and conceptually, how they work.
  • + + Organizational skills sufficient to ensure all calls are logged and follow‑up is complete.
  • + + Ability to answer telephones and provide courteous, prompt and efficient customer service.
  • + + Ability to organize multiple tasks and prioritize them to meet specific deadlines.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Work as part of a team in a fast‑pace environment supporting Service Center employees.

  • Provide phone support for end‑users.
  • Provide customer service, technical support and guidance to Service Center personnel where required.
  • Monitor and resolve or report violations of Company and I.T. policies primarily with regards to I.T. security, network and software standards.
