Job summary

City of Fridley is seeking a part-time Public Safety Clerk to assist with inquiries, prepare police reports, and coordinate licenses and records at the on-site Public Safety office in Fridley, MN 55432.

The role requires an Associates/Technical Degree in law enforcement, at least three years as a licensed peace officer and Minnesota Peace Officer License. The position offers benefits and is designated as on-site with a standard shift.

Qualifications

  • Associates/Technical Degree in law enforcement.
  • Three years' experience as a licensed peace officer.
  • Minnesota Peace Officer License required.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, answers or refers telephone, electronic and in-person inquiries, complaints and questions.
  • Receives and prepares police reports from public, using law enforcement experience to obtain necessary information for department personnel to provide an effective response.
  • Responds to requests for information on programs, ordinances, statutes and policies.
  • Responds to citizens' requests, concerns and complaints by providing information or connecting them with the appropriate City resource.
  • Answers general questions about police- and public safety-related services and issues.
  • Assists Public Safety staff with tasks related to the coordination and administration of business and operational licenses for liquor, tobacco, massage therapy, pawn shop, solicitor/peddler, dog licensing and charitable gambling.
  • Assists with investigation-related cases and initial case follow-up.
  • Collaborates with Public Safety staff to assist with organizing community events, educational, and Public Safety focused programming.
  • Coordinates department requests including ride-along requests, fingerprinting members of the public or City staff, assisting with processing, maintaining and releasing property, and reviewing, researching and preparing reports.
  • Participates in various department committees, City sponsored events and activities, and training.
  • Verifies and calibrates portable breath testing devices.
  • Enters data into an automated records management system.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

Minimum Education Required


  • Associates/Technical Degree in law enforcement; and


Minimum Experience Required


  • Three years' experience as a licensed peace officer; and

  • Previously or currently holds Minnesota Peace Officer License.
