Job summary

American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) is seeking a UI/UX Designer to support the creation, evolution, and optimization of its SaaS platform and products. The role focuses on defining design guidelines, establishing a design process, and translating requirements into wireframes and prototypes.

You will work onsite in Houston with cross‑functional teams, mentor designers, and ensure ABS branding and quality standards are embedded in every design.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of UI/UX design experience in B2B software.
• Bachelor’s degree in design/visual communication/CS or equivalent.
• Experience producing design artifacts: wireframes, visual designs, flow diagrams, storyboards, site maps, prototypes.

Responsibilities

• Define design guidelines with clear design rationale across multiple product lines.
• Set up and maintain the design process with user interviews, research, and collaboration with product management.
• Translate epics, feature descriptions, and user stories into UI/UX wireframes.
• Create wireframe artifacts including flow diagrams, storyboards, and site maps.
• Develop prototypes as part of design and iteration.
• Manage design work against schedules, milestones, and cost.
• Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and project teams to plan test scenarios and plans.
• Coordinate with stakeholders, developers, and SMEs to ensure designs meet requirements.
• Plan new designs and optimize existing designs.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to designers.

• Define design guidelines with clear design rationale across multiple product lines
• Set up and maintain the design process as part of organizational agility, including end user interviews, research, engagement with product management, and execution with teams
• Translate epics, feature descriptions, and user stories into UI/UX wireframes
• Create wireframe artifacts that may include flow diagrams, storyboards, and site maps
• Develop prototypes as part of design and iteration
• Manage design work against agreed goals and objectives, including schedules, milestones, and cost
• Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and the project team to structure test scenarios and test plans
• Coordinate with stakeholders, developers, and SMEs to confirm designs align with requirements
• Plan new designs and optimize existing designs
• Provide mentorship and guidance to designers on the team

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in UI/UX Design or a similar role
• Bachelor’s degree in design, visual communication, computer science (or comparable work experience) in business-to-business software applications
• Experience producing design solutions using wireframes, visual/graphic design, flow diagrams, storyboards, site maps, and/or prototypes
• Proficiency with desktop publishing tools such as Adobe XD, InVision, and Figma
• Competency in Microsoft Office: PowerPoint, Word, Excel
• Experience involved in the design or modification of systems or software
• Ability to investigate user experience needs tied to design requirements and user goals/objectives
• Capability to integrate ABS branding into design work
• Familiarity with the ABS Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Management System
• Good communication skills, appreciation for systems lifecycle methodologies, and commitment to process adherence
