Job summary

Tory Burch seeks a senior knitwear designer with 5+ years in Advanced Contemporary to lead sweater concepts from concept through SMS and production.

You will design, develop, and scale knitwear across seasonal lines, collaborate with yarn suppliers, and partner with Product Development and Technical Design to ensure fit and build quality. The role includes mentoring a Design Assistant and driving innovation within Tory Burch aesthetics.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Advanced Contemporary or Designer market.
  • Preferably experience managing a design assistant.
  • Strong understanding of sweater design, yarn development, stitch structures, garment construction, and seasonal concept development.
  • Experience working with PLM systems and cross-functional partners throughout the product development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Design and development of Pre-Collection sweater categories from initial concept through SMS.
  • Research seasonal trends, silhouettes, color, yarns, stitches, and construction techniques to develop commercially relevant knitwear concepts.
  • Select yarns in collaboration with Yarn Sourcing manager, balancing design intent, quality, and cost.
  • Familiarity with Italian and Asian yarn mills and yarn properties.
  • Strong communication skills to foster factory partnerships.
  • Develop knit swatches and stitch explorations relevant to the season.
  • Strong sketching skills, strong Photoshop/Procreate cad-ing skills.
  • Create presentation boards and CAD decks for Design Leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Partner with Product Development to maintain accurate product information in PLM.
  • Collaborate with Technical Design to ensure fit, construction, and garment engineering meet design intent.
  • Review prototypes, fittings, lab dips, yarn approvals, providing detailed feedback to vendors and cross-functional partners.
  • Drive product creation from concept through SMS, and final production readiness.
  • Manage and mentor the Design Assistant, including delegating work, reviewing deliverables, and approving timesheets.
  • Support a collaborative team environment by partnering with cross-functional teams to solve design and development challenges.

You have a strong background in designing knits and sweaters.

A Day in the Life:
  • Design and development of Pre-Collection sweater categories from initial concept through SMS.

  • Review prototypes, fittings, lab dips, yarn approvals, providing detailed feedback to vendors and cross-functional partners.
  • Drive product creation from concept through salesman sample (SMS), and final production readiness.
  • Manage and mentor the Design Assistant, including delegating work, reviewing deliverables, and approving timesheets.
  • Support a collaborative team environment by partnering with cross-functional teams to solve design and development challenges.
To Land This Role:
  • 5+ years experience in Advanced Contemporary or Designer market
