Job summary

MDS Staffing in Minnesota is seeking a Designer, Sustaining to drive 3D modeling, drawings, and BOM development for our products.

You will work with engineers to define components, manage smaller projects, lead prototype builds, and contribute to standardization across engineering processes. Strong SolidWorks skills and GD&T knowledge are essential; experience with PLM/JD Edwards is a plus.

Qualifications

• Associate degree preferred.
• 1-2 years of mechanical drafting/design experience.
• SolidWorks proficiency is essential.
• Strong understanding of drafting standards, GD&T, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with mechanical or electrical design, and guiding component and assembly builds.
• Familiarity with ENOVIA PLM or JD Edwards systems is advantageous.
• Experience designing large assemblies is a plus.
• Knowledge of stainless steel welding, sheet metal, tubing, and manifold designs is beneficial.
• Understanding of plastic part design is an added advantage.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain detailed 3D models, drawings, and BOM for product development.
• Research and select appropriate components for design integration.
• Independently manage smaller projects and contribute to larger, complex projects.
• Lead and collaborate on prototype and pilot builds, ensuring successful component and assembly construction.
• Contribute to the advancement of engineering, drafting, and release standards.
• Conduct tolerance stack analysis on complex assemblies and drawings before documentation release.
• Engage actively in the product development lifecycle, including brainstorming sessions and capturing customer insights.
• Prepare and manage ECO documentation, including BOM development.
• Perform precise calculations to ensure all design specifications, dimensions, and tolerances are met.

Join our innovative team as a Designer, Sustaining, where you will play a pivotal role in the development and enhancement of both new and existing products. Your expertise in 3D modeling, technical drawings, and documentation will be crucial in defining products for manufacturing and ensuring they meet all specifications. You will handle projects of varying complexity with minimal supervision, working alongside engineers and supervisors.
