Job summary

TKDA, a 100% employee-owned engineering firm, is seeking a Structural Designer to join a collaborative team in Duluth or Bloomington, MN. You will help draft and design mechanical systems for heavy industrial projects, using AutoCAD and Revit to produce construction documents.

You will perform basic mechanical calculations, complete redlines, and support project coordination with engineers from multiple disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Architectural Technology or related field.
  • 4+ years of progressive structural drafting and modeling.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit to produce construction documents.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Strong working knowledge of building systems, construction methods/practices, documents, and interpretation of plans.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans and models for coordination.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to conduct site assessments/field verifications; occasional overnight travel up to 15% may be required.

Job description

If you are looking for an opportunity to work alongside a team of highly collaborative structural engineering professionals where you can fully utilize and enhance your structural engineering design skills, then we have an exciting and rewarding opportunity available for you to join our team as a Structural Designer!

As a member of our team, you will join a multi-disciplined group of engineering (mechanical, electrical, civil, and structural) professionals to deliver design services for complex plant/building systems and site operations for heavy industrial sectors, including mining, mineral processing, aggregate, and metals. In this role, you will have the opportunity to assist with the drafting & design of mechanical system projects by preparing drawings through the utilization of design production software. In this position, you will also be responsible for performing basic mechanical calculations and completing redline revisions.

Note | Although this position is recognized as a Designer, it is commonly referred to as an Engineering Specialist internally at TKDA.

Location and Work Arrangement

This position could be based out of Duluth, MN or Bloomington, MN; however, candidates must reside within regular commuting distance from one of the two locations. TKDA offers flexible hybrid work arrangements, with employees typically working three days in the office and two days remotely, in alignment with business needs. Travel (less than 10%) to other TKDA offices, project or client locations, and may be required.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Architectural Technology, Engineering Technology, or related field of study.
  • Four or more years of progressive structural drafting and modeling experience.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit to produce construction documents, graphic presentations, and 3D renderings.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Strong working knowledge of building systems, construction methods / practices, the preparation and assembly of construction documentation, and interpretation of construction plans.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans and models to assist with project coordination.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to apply effective verbal and written communication skills when participating in project team discussions.
  • Ability to travel as needed to conduct site assessments / field verifications and perform construction observation tasks; Occasional overnight travel up to 15% may be required.
Advantageous Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu software.
  • Previous experience conducting building surveys and field verifications.
  • Previous experience working within a professional service or consulting environment.
  • Previous experience drafting and modeling structures within the education, government, or industrial sectors.

$66,500 - $78,000 a year

The listed salary range reflects only the starting base pay range for candidates with 4-10 years of related experience in our Duluth, Minnesota office. Compensation is determined based on technical skills, experience level, and qualifications. Candidates with more experience or different compensation expectations are encouraged to apply. All candidates are evaluated on the full scope of what they bring to the role. - The base compensation range for this position out of our Bloomington, MN would be $70,000 - $82,000.
