Job summary

Clark Nexsen, a JMT Company, seeks a Designer III - Lighting Practice Leader in Virginia Beach, VA to coordinate lighting plans, lead a design team, and collaborate with engineers, architects, and PMs from concept to completion on a variety of projects within our lighting practice.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant lighting design experience.
  • Lighting Certified (LC) and/or IALD Design Member or higher.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Produce contract drawings and specifications with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Design complex projects using CAD/BIM to convey design intent.

We are looking for a Lighting Practice Leader who will be Responsible for preparation and coordination for Lighting Practice Leader and lighting plan documents. This role partners with engineers and project managers, contributing to every phase of project development, from concept to completion on a variety of projects. The successful candidate will lead other designer(s) to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team and support the delivery of solutions tailored to each client's needs.

Compensation for this position is $100,000.00 - $125,000.00, commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. Essential Responsibilities
  • Uses judgment and modifications in making advanced computations and revises specifications for adaptations and modifications.
  • Coordinate projects with Local, City, State, and County codes and officials.
  • Collaborate with team of designers, engineers, and sub-consultants to produce a contract drawing and specifications.
  • Design complex projects using computer-aided drafting software and other design tools, ensuring compliance with client specifications and guidelines while creating project-specific content to clearly illustrate design intent.
  • Manage multidisciplinary (Revit) models to maintain accuracy and consistency across production drawings, recognizing and addressing impacts on other disciplines throughout the design process.
  • Resolve a variety of complex issues, (i.e., challenging design requirements, requirements for unconventional materials, difficult coordination requirements, etc.) and serve as a liaison between clients and agencies, subcontractors, and design teams.
  • Review project production documents for quality control, coordinate with other disciplines, perform code reviews and produce mark-up drawings for Designer I and II.
  • Carry out field surveys to confirm existing conditions or solving unforeseen field conditions during construction.
  • Performing construction administration and overseeing commissioning activities alongside the project manager.
  • Participates in planning, scheduling, conducting or coordinating detailed phases of the engineering design work in a part of a major project or in total of a project of moderate scope.
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, field conditions, and manufacturer's equipment data to plan projects.
  • Develop construction cost estimates.
  • Attend client meetings during design.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of team.

  • Associate's degree in a field of study related to drafting and design

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 85% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
