Job summary

DeKalb Health is seeking a skilled Designer/Mechanical Drafter in Verona, VA to create 3D models and 2D drawings for equipment documented for customer orders. You will handle general arrangement, certified and detailed drawings for fabrication or machining and coordinate across design phases.

  • Experience in Mechanical Power Transmission and rotating equipment (ideally gearboxes).
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Inventor.
  • Any additional essential skills and/or knowledge as shown in HRIS Career & Education > Skills for incumbents holding this job title.

  • Coordinate jobs throughout all design phases.
  • Review detailed drawings and BOMs to support customer orders.

Purpose and Scope of Job:

Primarily responsible for the preparation and review of general arrangement drawings of medium to heavy design complexity to document customer orders. This includes any technical administration such us Bill Of Materials and part number generation and maintenance while conforming to departmental and company standards. Drawings include general arrangement, certified and detailed parts drawing for fabrication or machining of components for assembly or manufacturing purposes.

Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned):
  • Generate 3D models and 2D approval and certified drawings of equipment quoted or sold to customers
  • Design and develop medium to heavy complexity projects with many intricacies under minimal supervision, providing sales order support with general arrangement drawings.
  • Prepare detailed mechanical design drawings to document and support product components and accessories for order requirements and maintain design schedule to meet or exceed customer and SMA expectations on turn around and quality from design department.
  • Coordinate jobs throughout all design phases.
  • Responsible for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating assignments.
  • Work closely with Management and Project Leaders to prepare and develop of technical documents across a range of project type and scale.
  • Develop solutions to design assignments and technical problems.
  • Lead technical coordination of project drawings and documents with all internal team members and vendors.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work on multiple projects while meeting budget and schedule constraints, with the ability to accommodate potential changes.
  • Lead initiatives and activities that strengthen company culture, knowledge base, and capabilities.
  • Review detailed drawings.
  • Review prepared general arrangement drawings to document customer orders.
  • Check BOM to support customer orders.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Engineering Design, or equivalent experience.
  • Seven (7+ ) years of experience as a designer or mechanical drafter.
  • Experience in Mechanical Power Transmission and rotating equipment (ideally gearboxes)
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Inventor.
  • Any additional essential skills and/or knowledge as shown in the HRIS Career & Education > Skills section for incumbents holding this job title.
