Job summary

Ad Hoc LLC in the United States is seeking a Designer III to transform government digital services through user-centered design. This remote, part-time role collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver high-fidelity prototypes and design systems.

You will mentor peers, conduct discovery, and produce typography-driven visuals while ensuring accessibility and compliance with standards. The team supports critical civilian programs and values flexible, inclusive work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of design experience.
  • Progressive experience with design principles and collaboration across teams.
  • Experience with design software such as Figma, Miro, or Adobe products.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguous requirements and adapt to changing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with stakeholders and program management teams.
  • Deliver design work including discovery artifacts, wireframes, and prototypes.
  • Navigate ambiguous requirements to support delivery.
  • Develop and communicate milestones; contribute design system assets.
  • Mentor junior designers and contribute to design reviews.
  • Lead competitive analyses and report results to stakeholders.
  • Create storytelling artifacts to communicate complex issues clearly.
  • Ensure accessibility considerations and 508 compliance when applicable.

Our Federal Civilian business unit supports many customers spanning the federal, commercial, and nonprofit space. Our customers include NASA, the General Services Administration, Office of Personnel Management, the Library of Congress, Health & Human Services, and the FDIC. We partner with these agencies to build new capabilities, deliver products, establish data as a strategic asset for informed decision‑making, modernize legacy systems, and build the digital service infrastructure necessary to scale their mission impact.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Exhibits influential skills to build relationships with team members, government and company stakeholders, and program management team members
  • Responsible for both program tactical assignments, as well as strategic initiatives to meet delivery requirements
  • Ability to navigate ambiguous requirements and environments to support delivery
  • Delivers design work including discovery artifacts, sketches and rough prototypes, wireframes, UX flows, and high fidelity prototypes
  • Utilizes design skills including typography and hierarchy
  • Supports the development and communication of milestones; and delivers upon their area of expertise
  • Proactively partners with Senior Designers, and is receptive to mentorship
  • Leads the development of competitive analyses and reports results to stakeholders
  • Contributes to design libraries, providing visual design and brand artifacts
  • Collaborates with a multi-disciplined team to facilitate discussions and articulate goals in order to deliver upon requirements
  • Demonstrates the ability to coach and mentor designers, with a focus on providing actionable feedback that helps individuals grow within the design discipline
  • Development of storytelling skills to deliver compelling artifacts and presentations that distill highly complex issues into focused, understandable solutions
  • Leads human centered design processes and deliverables in compliance with standards and regulations
  • May lead accessibility tasks inclusive of 508 compliance and have knowledge of other emerging accessibility standards
  • Ability to identify risks and communicate to leadership; provides recommendations to mitigate identified risks
  • May develop and manage content for highly visible websites or applications, abiding by design guidelines
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience
  • Relevant years of experience may be substituted for education
  • Progressive experience with design principles and relevant technologies, understands roles with which they interact and how their work impacts business goals
  • Experience with design software such as Figma, Miro, Adobe or other designer tools

Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and responsibility. The range of starting pay for this role is $30hr - $64hr
