Job summary

Haskell is seeking a Civil Designer to join our Jacksonville team. You will perform design, detailing, and analysis under supervision of a Licensed Professional, coordinating with peers across disciplines to deliver high-quality construction documents.

The role emphasizes independence on a range of projects, proficiency with Civil 3D, and collaboration to meet schedules while maintaining standards. Join a team focused on excellence and professional growth.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and minimum 3 years experience in design and drafting software.
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D experience required.
  • Experience with grading, drainage, plans and profiles is required.
  • Autodesk Civil 3D certification is preferred.

  • Works independently on a variety of projects from simple to complex, small to large.
  • Develops well-organized construction documents adhering to standards and schedules.
  • Coordinates work with other disciplines to minimize deficiencies, errors and omissions.
  • Participates in project strategy meetings and develops pricing and proposal documents.
  • Assists in project management, scheduling, and profitability.

In this role, you will perform design, detailing and analysis under supervision of Licensed Professional. You will engages in inter-disciplinary coordination with peers in other design disciplines.

Job Responsibilities
  • Application of Knowledge of Civil Engineering Applications (Conceptual Design):
    • Works independently on a variety of projects from simple to complex, small to large.
    • Effectively utilizes innovative technology to design and detail projects under the supervision of, and subject to, final approval by the Licensed Professional.
    • Participates in project strategy meetings within discipline, engages design concepts, and produces pricing and proposal presentation documents.
    • Coordinates work with other disciplines as to dimensions and interference to minimize deficiencies, errors, and omissions.
    • Develops an awareness of resources to complete due diligence where limited information is provided.
  • Design
    • Analysis Ability
      • When assigned design-related activities, prepares presentation drawings, and other deliverables as required by the Licensed Professional.
      • Performs analysis or basic calculations as required.
      • Entry level to intermediate use of civil design software, e.g. Civil 3D, SSA, Infraworks, etc.
  • Detailing
    • Ability to read and understand design documents.
    • Ability to create professional, non-standard details.
  • Construction Documents
    • Works with the Licensed Professional with drawing planning, production, management, and adherence to schedule.
    • Produces well organized construction documents of good appearance, accuracy, clarity, and correctness, adhering to team and discipline standards.
    • Adheres to established company standards and policies.
    • Coordinates work with other disciplines.
    • Developing awareness of modern civil engineering technologies, procedures, and methods to utilize design tools to compile work.
  • Construction Support
    • Works with Senior Designer or Design Engineer (Associate), to assist construction personnel in the interpretation and clarification of construction documents as directed by the Licensed Professional, providing timely solutions to field problems, preparing field orders, addenda, and record drawings subject to approval by the Licensed Professional.
  • Project Management
    • Maintains orderly work file, prepares clear well-written memos/correspondence.
    • Produces well-organized, finished drawings of good appearance, accuracy, clarity, and correctness.
    • Partners with technical efforts of discipline Interns, designers, technicians assigned to the project.
  • Planning, Scheduling and Profitability
    • Works the Design Engineer or Licensed Professional with drawing planning, production, management, and adherence to schedule.
    • Meet civil design schedule to align with target dates for deliverables.
    • Manage personal productivity to maintain a profitable margin while executing the basic services.
    • Identifies situations which may require potential design change orders.
  • Professional Development
    • Works with development of training programs and makes presentations to staff.
    • Participates in trade organizations within discipline.
    • Participates in the development of group and corporate standards committees.
    • Identify continuing education opportunities to expand professional growth and advance the collective ability of the discipline.
  • Leadership
    • Keeps apprised of new technologies and assists in the incorporation of the new technologies into the A/E practice.
    • Champion compliance to corporate standards and best practices.
Education & Years of Experience:
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent), and minimum of 3 years’ experience in design and drafting software.
To thrive in this role, you'll need:
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D experience required.
  • Experience working with grading, drainage, plans, and profiles required.
  • Autodesk Civil 3D professional certification preferred.

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
