The Designer Drafter - Substation Eng is responsible for creating, revising, maintaining, and developing engineering drawings and documentation supporting the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of substation relay and control, structures and equipment, RTU, and related facilities. Responsibilities include preparing construction drawings, one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment layouts, and related engineering documentation while adhering to Tampa Electric Company standards, schedules, and applicable industry codes.
Key Internal: Members of substation engineering, substation operations, and RTU.
Key External: Contractors, Customers, and Vendors
Education
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent and formal drafting courses.
Licenses/Certifications
Required: Valid driver's license.
Related Experience
Required: 3 years of related work experience designing electric utility substations, including relay and control, physical, structural, and/or RTU systems.
Preferred: 5 years of related work experience designing electric utility substations, including relay and control, physical, structural, and/or or RTU systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required: AutoCAD/Auto Desk Suite of Products.
Preferred: MicroStation Software Familiarity.
Travel from home office to the entire Tampa Electric service territory is expected and could be frequent.
Working outdoors in hot, humid, wet and/or cold conditions 5% of the workday.
Working some overtime (nights, weekends, and holidays).
Walking, bending, climbing 10% to 20% of the workday.
Sitting at a desk / computer workstation up to 80% of the workday.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Reports directly to the Supervisor of the Designer Drafter Team. Responsible for preparing and revising design drawings from engineering principles and concepts while adhering to Tampa Electric Co. standards, industry standards, schedules, and other controlling factors. Works directly in support of engineering projects and performs leadership, drafting and design services for construction and maintenance substation projects of varying size and scope. Provides direction, mentoring, and feedback to other CAD drafters assigned to the team.
Direct Supervision: N/A
Indirect Supervision: Indirect leadership responsibility to give guidance to and train design/drafters, co-ops and others outside of the drafting department in drawing set up, standards, and techniques used at Tampa Electric Company.
Education
Required: H.S. Diploma or equivalent, and formal drafting courses.
Preferred: An Associate Degree in drafting technology
Related Experience
Required: Minimum of seven (7) years related work experience. Related experience consisting of: power generating facilities and/or electric delivery design principles and construction work packages. College degree as described above may be considered in lieu of equivalent experience.
Preferred: At least2 years of experience within the power delivery industry.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Required: Strong knowledge of Substation Engineering. Strong knowledge of construction methods and field experience. High level degree of knowledge of CAD, Work Package assembly, maintaining CAD templates and tools, and Substation Operations construction means and methods.
Preferred: The ability to guide and train a work group. Strong leadership skills.
