Job summary

Ingalls Shipbuilding, part of HII, seeks an electrical design professional to craft components or sections of systems and refine existing designs for ship modifications. You will use CAD/CAM/CATIA and generate sketches to present proposals.

You will coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, and planning teams and travel to Naval Bases to support pier-side shipchecking and surveys.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with 5 years of engineering experience required.
• Associates degree or 2-year technical degree plus 1 year experience acceptable.
• Proficiency with CAD tools and standard office software is a plus.

The Role

Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.

Applicant will be directly involved in electrical design and development of drawings associated with ship modification and overhauls. Applicant will be responsible for following applicable drawings procedures and standards. Applicant will also be responsible for locating, interpreting and applying government and vendor-furnished information and technical data into during development of functional electrical design drawings. Travel to numerous Naval Bases will be required to support pier side shipchecking and surveys.

Must Have

• High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of experience

• Associates degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 1 year experience

Nice to Have

• Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel and Word.
