Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking an engineer for reactor servicing design support in a fast-paced environment. You will work with CAD tools (CAD, CAM, NX, CATIA) to design components and improve manufacturing operations, coordinating with engineering, manufacturing, tooling and planning groups.

The role requires an Associate's Degree with relevant experience, plus willingness to apply for a U.S. security clearance if needed.

• Equivalencies include Apprentice School or NNPS graduates; read and interpret 2D drawings and basic CAD concepts.

The anticipated salary range represents the estimated base pay for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors, and may vary from the posted range

The Role

Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.

This opportunity is with the Newport News Shipbuilding Nuclear Reactor Servicing Engineering group, responsible for providing engineering support to service Navy nuclear reactors. Must Have

Associate's Degree and 1 years of relevant experience

One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

• NNS Apprentice School graduate
• Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
• High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience
• High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience
• General ability to read and comprehend 2D structural and mechanical drawings, and some knowledge of AutoCAD drawing development, drawing symbols, dimensioning and layout.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Autodesk Inventor
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Good organizational skills
• Self-motivated
