Position Overview

The Associate in this position actively develops the skills and competencies required for the Component Technician/Truss Designer role. The trainee is expected to complete a comprehensive 16-week training program, which includes online modules, classroom sessions, and hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

1. Under the supervision of a design manager, completes all phases of the Truss Designer training program.
2. Prepares basic roof and/or floor truss designs by reading blueprints and consulting with sales and/or customers about job requirements.
3. Calculates plan dimensions and inputs design parameters into specialized software.
4. Reviews plans with experienced designers to ensure accuracy and standards compliance.
5. Produces truss placement layouts for construction.
6. Provides job site support as needed, with assistance from sales associates or senior designers.
7. Learn pricing strategies and draft bid proposals.
8. Prepares for and passes certification tests.
9. After completing the training, the DIT is expected to design simple, accurate one-story structures.

Qualifications

An associate degree in a related field or equivalent experience in construction or design shops. Prior shop or construction experience is preferred. Framing experience is a plus.
