Summary

The Design System Lead will help drive the vision and project management of a design system comprising visual styles, UI components, and other design concerns. The ideal candidate will adopt a systems mindset to build and integrate consistent, efficient components across the product portfolio. The focus will be on the complete systems lifecycle, from establishing a practice and vision to design, build, document, and maintain a library used by multiple product teams.

Essential Functions

1. Identify business, design, and development needs; define parameters for design system components, documentation, and governance; lead teams to create and deploy functional and durable design elements.
2. Collaborate with the development team on implementation of a React-based design system.
3. Document design system components for implementation in the UX team’s workstream to ensure design consistency.
4. Work with other designers and cross-departmentally with product and development teams.
5. Interpret user research data to inform design processes.
6. Present concepts clearly to the product team and stakeholders.

Skills and Abilities

• Hands-on experience with design systems, including adoption, contribution guidance, and component library maintenance.
• Expertise in design tools such as InVision, Sketch, Figma, or similar.
• Ability to anticipate and design for user needs, incorporating research, strategy, and analytics.
• Strong communication skills, including presentation, negotiation, and collaboration.
• Portfolio of web/mobile application design projects.
• Experience with user data collection, usability studies, and user research (a plus).
• Proficiency in rapid wireframing and UI prototyping for usability testing.

Qualifications

• Diploma required; vocational training or experience with industry tools.
• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, interaction design, visual design, HCI, computer science, or UX preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years contributing to design and front-end components in React and Figma.
• At least 5 years of experience understanding the intersection of user needs, technology, and business goals.
• Minimum of 5 years gathering and evaluating user requirements collaboratively with product managers and engineers.

Travel: 10-20%

Salary is based on internal equity, market data, certifications, etc., ranging from $90K to $115K.
