Join to apply for the Design Studies Engineer (Line Design & EMT Studies)– Senior Level role at POWER Engineers.

POWER Engineers, a member of WSP, is seeking a Senior Design Studies Engineer specializing in Line Design and EMT Studies. This position is available at multiple POWER office locations with the option to work remotely from a mutually agreed location. Please specify your preferred location in the application.

Roles and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will oversee project completion and maintain client relationships. Responsibilities include technical work in primary production roles, client interaction, and mentoring team members. Projects involve AC and DC transmission line and substation design support studies for utility and commercial clients.

Studies Will Include
  • Insulation coordination for AC and DC applications
  • Transient simulation
  • TRV analysis
  • Circuit breaker rating studies
  • Steady state unbalance and transposition studies
  • Single pole reclosing and secondary arc current design
  • Delayed zero crossing
  • Neutral reactor sizing
  • NESC clearance studies
  • Equipment minimum approach distance studies
  • Phase conductor sizing/selection
  • Optical shield wire sizing
  • Lightning performance prediction
  • Lightning/surge/voltage arrester application
  • Corona performance prediction
  • Corrosion analysis and mitigation
  • Finite-element electric/magnetic field analysis
  • Resonance studies/mitigation
  • Electric losses and economic considerations
  • FACTS device implementation

Candidate should be able to contribute to proposal writing, engage in customer interactions, mentor less experienced engineers, and develop training materials. Occasional travel may be required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
  • Ten years of industry experience in relevant studies for AC systems and/or DC lines
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, electromagnetics, and power systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Experience with ATP, PSCAD, DigSILENT, EPRI T-Flash, EMTP, SWRATE, CAFEP, POLARIS, I2G LPE, CDEGS, or similar software
Preferred Qualifications
  • Power Systems MSEE or PhD
  • PE license or equivalent
  • Experience with customer-focused projects
  • Knowledge of COMSOL Multiphysics and/or Polaris-EMF

POWER Engineers, a WSP company, offers a competitive benefits package, including health insurance, paid time off, 401(k), and other family-friendly benefits. The salary range is $105,000 to $225,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
