Job summary

Article Student Living invites you to its 2027 Design Internship, a 12-week program running May 24, 2027 to Aug 12, 2027, in Chicago. You will join the Development team to assist from concept to completion and gain hands-on experience in interiors development and operations support.

You will report to the VP of Design and Strategy. Compensation is $22/hour with on-site work 4–5 days/week and travel up to 10% of the time, offering events and a project presentation at the end.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field.
• Proficiency in Excel (maintain spreadsheets), PowerPoint, and Bluebeam.
• Exposure to student living, multifamily, or hospitality design.
• Proficiency in design software, REVIT or AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Support the VP of Design and Strategy in interiors review and conceptualization.
• Document and report interior design project status.
• Collaborate with the design team on analysis and go/no go critiques of consultant designs.
• Review value engineering and propose alternative solutions.
• Conduct internal historical cost analysis on consultants and finishes.
• Interface with external consultants, vendors, and reps on interiors.
• Prepare project materials for meetings and presentations.
• Track actual spend and project costs.

Article Student Living is excited to invite you to our 2027 internship program! We are recruiting a Design Intern to join our Development team for Summer 2027. You will collaborate with the development team on a broad scope of responsibilities from concept to completion. You will focus on development pursuits, any active developments, and operational property support; all a part of our student living discipline.

This 12-week internship program will run from May 24 - August 12, 2027.

There will be events planned throughout the program, such as lunch-and-learns, systems training, and an end-of-the-internship project presentation. There's a lot to learn and fun to be had. We can't wait to begin.

You will report to the VP, of Design and Strategy

Compensation for this role is $22/hour.

You will work on-site at our Chicago, IL office 4-5 days a week.

Potential travel up to 10% of the time.

Your Mission

• Support the VP, of Design and Strategy in reviewing Interiors conceptualization
• Documentation and reporting of interior design project status.
• Collaborate with the design team to perform critical analysis and go/no go critiques on consultant designs.
• Review and recommend value engineering and alternative solutions.
• Conduct internal historical cost analysis on interior design consultants and finish materials.
• Interiors conceptualization and interface with external design consultants, vendors, and reps.
• Prepare project materials for meetings and presentations.
• Conduct historical cost analysis of consultants and project actual spend.

Your Background:

• Pursuing a degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field
