Job summary

Impellam Group in Dearborn seeks a detail-oriented Design Release Engineer to oversee the design validation and release process for exterior components. You will own DFMEAs, ensure design compliance, and coordinate with suppliers from concept through production release.

Hybrid role requiring four days weekly in the office; you will review CAD models, manage verification evidence for PPAP, and support gate milestones with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and facilitate DFMEA sessions with cross-functional teams and maintain updates.
• Review designs against standards; document deviations and drive resolution with design teams.
• Assemble and manage design verification evidence, test reports, DFMEA outputs and sign-offs for reviews and PPAP.
• Prepare and track Supplier Corrective Action Forms (SCAFs) and document root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Serve as technical liaison with suppliers on design intent and quality issues; participate in supplier reviews.
• Use CAD tools to review models/drawings, verify design intent, and communicate changes to engineers.
• Support cross-functional design reviews and gate milestones; ensure documentation is audit-ready.
• Develop 3D geometry and design concepts that meet crash load requirements and ensure GDT implementation.

Role summary / purpose

We're looking for a detail-oriented Design Release Engineer to support the design validation and release process for exterior components and systems. This role owns risk analysis, design compliance, and supplier coordination activities that ensure components meet engineering and quality standards from concept through production release.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and facilitate Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) sessions with cross-functional teams; identify potential failure modes, effects, causes, and mitigation actions; maintain and update DFMEAs throughout the design lifecycle
• Review component and system designs against corporate/engineering Design Rules and standards; document deviations and drive resolution with design teams
• Compile, organize, and maintain design verification evidence packages, test reports, analysis results, DFMEA outputs, and sign-offs to support design reviews, PPAP, and program milestones
• Author Supplier Corrective Action Forms (SCAFs) to document nonconformances, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions; track closure with suppliers
• Serve as a technical point of contact with suppliers on design intent, quality issues, and corrective actions; participate in supplier reviews and problem-solving meetings
• Use basic CAD skills (e.g., CATIA, NX, or SolidWorks) to review models/drawings, verify design intent, and communicate changes with design engineers
• Support cross-functional design reviews and gate milestones, ensuring documentation is complete and audit-ready
• Develop 3D geometry and design concepts that meet crash load case requirements; optimize designs through analytical and physical assessment; ensure compliance with federal regulations; deliver fit/finish craftsmanship through proper GDT implementation

Requirements - education & experience

• Familiarity with DFMEA
• Ability to take measurements in CAD
