Job summary

Bowman Engineering and Consulting, Inc. is seeking an Aviation Design Project Manager to lead planning, design, and delivery of airport infrastructure, facilities, and capital improvement projects.

You will manage multidisciplinary teams across civil, structural, architectural, MEP, and airside/landside systems, ensuring schedules, budgets, quality, and client coordination from concept to construction support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • 5+ years of experience in Building Automation Systems (BAS), Controls Engineering, Facility Automation, or related.
  • Experience designing or supporting BAS systems for large facilities.
  • Experience with BAS platforms such as Siemens Desigo, Johnson Controls Metasys, Tridium Niagara, Schneider Electric EcoStruxure, Honeywell, Automated Logic, or similar.
  • Experience with HVAC controls, energy management systems, and MEP system integration.
  • Experience with airport facilities, transportation infrastructure, or mission-critical facilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead aviation planning, design, and engineering projects from concept development through construction support and project closeout.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams, including civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and specialty consultants.
  • Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, work plans, and resource allocations to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Coordinate with airport authorities, regulatory agencies, stakeholders, consultants, and internal teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of engineering reports, design documents, construction drawings, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Ensure project designs comply with FAA regulations, airport standards, client requirements, and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks and issues, and implement corrective actions to maintain schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
  • Lead client meetings, design reviews, stakeholder workshops, and project presentations.
  • Manage project communications and provide regular updates regarding scope, schedule, budget, and design progress.
  • Coordinate and oversee design activities involving airport facilities, infrastructure, airside and landside improvements, and MEP systems.
  • Support procurement efforts, Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Statements of Qualifications (SOQs), and business development activities.
  • Provide construction-phase support, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, evaluating design modifications, and coordinating with construction teams.
  • Foster strong client relationships and identify opportunities for continued growth and service expansion.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

The Aviation Design Project Manager is responsible for leading the planning, design, and delivery of airport infrastructure, facility, and capital improvement projects. The Aviation Design Project Manager serves as a trusted advisor to airport clients, ensuring designs are innovative, compliant, and aligned with operational requirements while successfully integrating civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and airside/landside elements. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical expertise, project management experience, and the ability to lead complex aviation projects from concept through construction support.
