Job description

The Design Project Manager is responsible for keeping the organization’s brand and marketing design projects organized, moving, and delivered to a high standard. Working closely with the Creative Director and internal stakeholders, this role manages the day-to-day coordination and production of design projects—from initial request through final delivery.

This person will serve as the connective tissue between creative direction, internal teams, external partners, and production vendors. They will help establish clear timelines, manage priorities and feedback, track project details, and ensure that deliverables are completed accurately, on time and on budget.

While project management is the primary focus of the role, the Design Project Manager will also have a working knowledge of design software and production processes. They will occasionally make minor edits to existing design files, prepare files for production, make simple layout or formatting adjustments, and assist with other production needs. This is not a primary design or creative

direction role, but rather a role for someone who is comfortable working within established design systems and standards.

This position reports to:

  • Direct Report to the Creative Director
  • Indirect Report to the Senior Project Manager as member of Project Management team

This is a full-time hybrid position. Due to the nature of the responsibilities, the employee will be expected to work on-site in the Atlanta office two days a week and when needed for pre-scheduled meetings.

Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Coordination
  • Manage the workflow of brand, marketing, editorial, digital, and print design projects from intake through completion.
  • Keep notes during design discovery and project launch meetings
  • Manage ClickUp builds of design projects
  • Translate creative requests into clear project plans, timelines, deliverables, and next steps.
  • Maintain visibility into the status, priorities, deadlines, and dependencies of active design projects.
  • Communicate project status on a regular basis to the Senior Project Manager
  • Utilize standard project management methodology and consistent application
  • Coordinate project schedules and ensure milestones stay on track
  • Proactively identify potential delays or risks throughout the life cycle of the project.
  • Facilitate communication between the Creative Director, internal stakeholders, designers, copywriters, vendors, printers, and other partners.
  • Schedule and coordinate reviews, feedback rounds, approvals, and handoffs.
  • Keep project files, assets, specifications, and final deliverables organized and accessible.
  • Help establish and maintain repeatable processes for common design and marketing projects.
  • Coordinate multiple projects simultaneously while helping prioritize work based on deadlines, organizational needs, and available resources.
Design Production & Support
  • Make minor edits and updates to existing design files within established brand and design systems.
  • Make simple text, image, layout, formatting, and content updates to print and digital materials.
  • Prepare and package files for internal use, vendors, printers, and other production partners.
  • Perform basic quality-control checks on design files before delivery or production.
  • Assist with resizing, adapting, and versioning existing creative for different formats and channels.
  • Help maintain templates and other repeatable design assets.
  • Support the Creative Director and designers with production tasks as needed.
  • Identify when a request requires a designer or higher-level creative input rather than attempting to solve it independently.
  • Coordinate with printers, fabricators, photographers, illustrators, freelancers, and other creative vendors.
  • Gather estimates, specifications, proofs, and production information as needed.
  • Track production schedules and deadlines.
  • Review proofs and production files for accuracy and completeness.
  • Help coordinate final file delivery and physical production of print materials.
  • Maintain organized records of production specifications, vendor information, and final files.
Systems & Process Improvement
  • Help develop and maintain project management systems, templates, checklists, and workflows for the Creative team.
  • Identify opportunities to make the design process more efficient, predictable, and scalable.
  • Help ensure projects enter the creative process with the necessary information, assets, and approvals.
  • Establish clear handoff processes between creative, marketing, communications, and other internal teams.
  • Look for recurring production issues or inefficiencies and help develop solutions.
Qualifications
  • 2–4+ years of experience in project management, creative operations, marketing, design production, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Established track record and proven initiative in developing and implementing organizational strategies, systems and process improvements
  • Experience managing multiple creative or marketing projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail and ability to translate complex concepts into context that are relevant to the organization
  • Ability to manage timelines, priorities, dependencies, and competing requests.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable coordinating with a variety of personalities, roles, and external partners.
  • Ability to make basic edits to existing design files and work within established templates and brand guidelines.
  • Familiarity with print and digital production processes and specifications.
  • Ability to recognize when a project requires creative direction versus straightforward production support.
  • Excellent analytical and strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Ability to work independently while knowing when to ask questions or escalation a decision.
What Success Looks Like

A successful Design Project Manager creates clarity around the creative process. Projects are well organized, deadlines are visible and realistic, stakeholders know what is needed from them, designers can focus on creative work rather than chasing details, and deliverables move smoothly from concept to completion.

This person will help the Creative Director spend more time on creative direction, brand development, and high-level design decisions by taking ownership of the coordination, organization, communication, and production details.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and naturally proactive. They enjoy bringing structure to creative environments and are comfortable balancing a lot of moving pieces without losing sight of the details.

They don’t need to be a designer—but they should speak the language of design. They understand basic design principles, can navigate design files, recognize when something doesn’t look right, and are comfortable making straightforward production edits when appropriate. Most importantly, they are someone the Creative Director can trust to take a project from “Here’s what we need” to “It’s done” with minimal hand-holding.
