As pioneers in generative AI for healthcare, we are setting the industry standards for the responsible deployment of AI across health systems. We are a growing team of practicing MDs, AI scientists, PhDs, creatives, technologists, and engineers working together to empower people and make care make more sense. We have offices located in the Mission District in San Francisco, the SoHo neighborhood of New York, and East Liberty in Pittsburgh.

The Role

We're looking for a Design Operations Manager to help scale, support, and streamline operations across our growing product design organization. This role sits at the intersection of strategy and execution—you'll shape how the design team operates while staying deeply involved in the day-to-day work that makes great design possible. You'll partner closely with product design leadership, research, engineering, and product management to ensure the design team can deliver high-quality, high-impact work at speed and scale. This role reports to the VP of Product Design and is based in our San Francisco HQ. We offer relocation assistance.

What You’ll Do
  • Coordinate and land a blank slate product re-design of Abridge
  • Partner with design leadership to identify and implement programs, processes, and tools that help the team operate more effectively
  • Lead operational planning and execution for key initiatives—team-wide rituals, hiring coordination, onboarding, resource allocation, and internal communications.
  • Build and maintain scalable systems that support team growth, execution excellence, and strong collaboration across research, engineering, and product.
  • Oversee asset management practices across the design org, ensuring shared libraries, templates, and systems are version-controlled, accessible, and consistently used
  • Manage external vendors and contractors—handling onboarding, scoping, resourcing, contract workflows, and performance tracking to extend the team's capacity with quality and accountability
  • Partner with Product and Engineering Operations to align OKRs, roadmaps, and delivery milestones
  • Drive intake, prioritization, and resource planning for design work in a fast-moving, highly collaborative product environment
  • Bring clarity to ownership, roles, and execution timelines—ensuring the right people are in the loop at the right time
  • Facilitate retrospectives, team health check-ins, and continuous improvement efforts to help the team operate at its best
  • Roll up your sleeves where needed—whether standing up a new system, running a sprint planning session, onboarding a vendor, or troubleshooting a tool
What You’ll Bring
  • 8+ years of experience in design operations within high-growth technology environments
  • A track record of building and scaling 0-to-1 operational systems across multidisciplinary teams—balancing long-term vision with hands-on execution
  • A nuanced orientation toward process: you know when to advocate for it, when to hold it loosely, and what it can and can't solve
  • Deep familiarity with the design and product development lifecycle—from early research and concepting through delivery and iteration
  • Experience managing shared design tools, assets, and libraries to support consistency and efficiency at scale
  • Vendor and contractor management experience, with a focus on enabling seamless collaboration and high-quality outcomes
  • High organizational rigor paired with a bias for action—you're comfortable getting in the weeds to move things forward
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across senior leadership, technical partners, and designers of all levels
  • The ability to thrive in fast-paced environments and solve problems in real time to help teams keep moving
Bonus Points If…
  • You've worked in a healthcare technology or regulated-industry environment and understand the nuance that comes with it
  • You have experience supporting design teams through periods of rapid organizational or product scale
