Job description

The Store Design Manager is part of the store development team, primarily responsible for the design and documentation of new and renovated restaurants. This role will work with counterparts on the Real Estate, Construction, Ops Services and Facilities teams to design projects that meet brand standards as well as timeline and budget expectations. This position will report to the Senior Design Manager and will be responsible for between 15-20 projects a year.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead Design Pipeline for assigned regions, by designing projects personally, managing AOR partners, and working with consultants to achieve company goals. Lead projects from Site assessment to Opening. DM is responsible for layout creation and 3D concept, as well as managing the AOR throughout the CD, permitting, and CA process.
  • Help determine site feasibility through the test fit / layout process, and through site survey review. Support RE team with workletter process.
  • Act as an active contributor on the design team to collaborate on new standards, regional expansion strategies, art programs, and prototype updates as driven from Design and Ops Innovation teams.
  • Design concepts consistent with allocated budget, and partner with team members on value engineering exercises when necessary.
  • Communicate effectively to cross functional partners in real estate, construction, and operations, as well as external consultants to ensure project meets relevant stakeholder expectations.
  • Review and redline shop drawings from vendors, coordinate with CD’s for consistency
  • Understand and design store to meet operational needs, maintaining flexibility as the brand standards grow and evolve.

About you:

  • You prioritize work based on impact and urgency, delivering on commitments and driving departmental initiatives. When priorities are unclear, you identify and escalate roadblocks to your leaders.
  • You have experience managing the permitting process and can think creatively on how to expedite and control this process where possible
  • Your Construction management experience allows you to be a helpful support to the construction manager. You will sit on weekly OAC calls, and interface with the GC, millworker, AOR/EOR, and kitchen vendor to deliver a successful project on time and within budget.
  • You have a customer Obsessed mindset, realizing that our customer is two fold: our internal team members and operations stakeholders as well as our external customers who engage with the brand through our restaurant locations.
  • You are proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, Sketchup, Adobe Creative (namely Photoshop and Indesign) as well as Microsoft Suite and Bluebeam.
  • You are flexible to travel 10-25%, depending on business needs
  • You are solutions oriented and collaborative - recognizing that we are our best when our success is shared.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in retail, restaurant/hospitality design for a national brand.
  • 3+ years as a project design manager.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Architecture, Interior Architecture, Interior Design or related field of study
  • In depth understanding of kitchen equipment and engineering requirements.
  • Experience managing consultants and vendor relationships.
