Job summary

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. seeks a Design Manager to drive design delivery on renewable energy projects. Lead the design team, consultants, and subcontractors to produce coordinated documents aligning quality, cost, scope, and execution goals.

PV system experience is preferred for this field-driven role. Develop design packaging strategies, monitor deliverables, manage RFIs, and coordinate with Owner vendors to ensure requirements are integrated.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CM or engineering field required.
• Minimum 5 years in project or design management.
• Hands-on field experience in design and construction preferred.
• Experience with photovoltaic systems preferred.
• Strong facilitation and team-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership through the design function to help teams achieve business strategy and objectives.
• Develop a design packaging strategy to meet owner requirements and project goals.
• Define, schedule, and monitor design deliverables to meet quality and schedule while preventing scope creep.
• Manage the RFI (design issues) process for owner-team communication.
• Host value analysis sessions to identify cost-effective approaches.
• Coordinate with Owner vendors to ensure integrated requirements.
• Develop RFPs for design firm responses or design-build subcontractor responses.
• Lead the development of pursuit designs.
• Prepare designer and subcontractor scopes of work to ensure no gaps in design services.
• Coordinate designs to control budgets and communicate via trend logs.
• Build relationships with executive management and key owners/engineers.
• Support workload/workflow management systems and continuous improvement.
