Job Overview

As a Designer Lead, you will guide a team of Designers in developing drawing packages. The successful candidate must provide guidance and training based on customer requirements, prioritize work, allocate resources, and support deliverable schedules. You will drive improvements in drawing accuracy and reduce rework, acting as a communication link between teams. Functional knowledge in developing drawings such as plan views, elevation & section views, foundation layouts & details, grounding layouts, and station material is essential.

A Day In The Life
  • Balance resource workload considering urgent customer requirements and deliverables.
  • Initiate efficiency improvements through standard work development across departments and remote offices.
  • Collaborate with CAD Technicians, Designers, and Engineers on technical issues to ensure timely project delivery within budget.
  • Develop training and mentoring programs for interns and designers.
  • Identify and facilitate training and continuous improvement opportunities for the design team.
  • Monitor drawing and filing standards, ensuring quality control procedures are followed.
  • Implement initiatives to reduce drawing errors and enhance deliverable accuracy.
  • Establish and track performance metrics aligned with business goals.
  • Create station drawings including plan views, sections, elevations, and details.
  • Conduct detail drawing checks to ensure adherence to customer standards and overall quality.
  • Check and incorporate customer-provided as-built drawings.
  • Provide leadership in employee evaluations, career development, coaching, and technical mentorship.

Experience & Education

  • Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum three to five years of experience in design, drafting, or a similar environment.
